Site Overview: Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario is a full-service community hospital offering emergency, inpatient, and outpatient care. Opened in 1961, it serves over 250,000 residents across Halton and Hamilton-Wentworth regions. The hospital features the modern Michael Lee-Chin & Family Patient Tower and is known for its compassionate, patient-centered care
Position: Part-Time Security Guard
Site: Joseph Brant Hospital, 1245 Lakeshore Rd., Burlington, ON L7S 0A2
Hours: Saturday - Sunday (1900 - 0700 hrs)
Payrate: $18.86/hr. - $19.99/hr. (based on levelling system)
Averaging Agreement: Overtime is Averaging Agreement after 88 hours

Key responsibilities:
- Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
- Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
- Access Control: Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
- Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
- Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
- Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
- Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
- Collaboration with Hospital Staff: Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
- Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards
Requirements:
- A Valid Ontario Security Guard License
- Proficient in English (both oral and written)
- Valid First Aid and CPR Level C Certification
- Immunization Record (covid-19, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and TB skin tests 1 and 2)
- Degree in Police Foundations, Protection Security and Investigations, Criminology, or Border Services is an asset
- Able to provide a clean shaven face in order to pass a N95 mask fit test
- At least one year experience working in healthcare security
- Ability to walk/climb stairs throughout the premises for longer periods of time
- Authorized to legally work in Canada
- Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UoF) and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB)
- Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB pre-employment certification training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
- Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB pre-employment certification training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite, however Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6 month commitment to the position/availability
