Provide oversight of the daily operation in the Surgical Pathology and Histology areas of the Laboratory, including the performance of all the various tasks required for the completion of all pathology procedures, including tissue cutting and embedding, fluid processing, staining, and other Pathology related procedure under the supervision of the Pathologists and Laboratory director or manager. Responsible for the department's Quality Assurance system to ensure compliance with laboratory standards and regulatory guidelines. Contribute and participate in Departmental Process improvement assignments and meetings, including Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Actions, and Routine inspection for protocol deviation. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to writing and updating procedures according to CAP standards, maintaining inventory control, ordering supply, performing instrument maintenance, quality control record keeping, Histology staff training, competency assessment, performance evaluation, coordinating staffing according to daily workload fluctuation, and preparing for CAP survey.


Required Skills
  • Lead or Supervisory experience in Histology Department
  • Advance histology technical skills in cutting and embedding tissue.
  • Working knowledge of stains and handling solutions.
  • Operation of centrifuge and tissue processor.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Guideline by College of America Pathology standards and regulations.

Required Experience

Required:

  • ASCP HT or HLT certification
  • 5 years previous histologist experience
  • Basic computer skills

Preferred:

  • Two (2) years college Chemistry / Biology
