Description

Serve as an advisor for the Paramedic Program Advisory Board at Pima Medical Institute. The Medical Director is responsible for the medical oversight of the Emergency Medical Technician /Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Review and approve the program's educational content, including didactic, laboratory, clinical experience, field experience, and capstone field internship, to ensure it meets current standards of medical practice.
  • Review and approve the required minimum numbers for each patient contact and procedure listed in the standards.
  • Review and approve the instruments and processes used to evaluate students in didactic, laboratory, clinical, field experience, and capstone field internships.
  • Review each student's progress throughout the program and assist in determining appropriate corrective measures.
  • Ensure the competence of each graduate of the program in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains.
  • Engage in cooperative involvement with the Program Director.
  • Have adequate controls to ensure the quality of the delegated responsibilities.
  • Participate in program planning and evaluation of instruction in the paramedic program.
  • Support the Clinical Director by ensuring that the medical directors of the affiliated paramedic departments provide adequate medical input during clinical education.
  • Collaborate or assist in educational methods.
  • Attend Advisory Board meetings and faculty meetings on a bi-annual basis.
  • Support the appropriate professional association through participation in seminars and conferences.
  • Additional related duties may be assigned.

MANAGEMENT DUTIES:

  • Assists with interviews, hires, orients, and training of new employees
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • A physician licensed to practice medicine within the United States and currently authorized to practice within the geographic area served by the program, with experience and current knowledge of emergency care of acutely ill and injured patients. 
  • Board Certified in Emergency Medicine by either the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists (BOS) OR
  • Be Subspecialty Board Certified in EMS by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) OR
  • Be Board Certified (ABMS or BOS) in another specialty and have current evidence of training in:
  • Healthcare provider CPR, as approved by the OEMSTS.
  • Advanced cardiac life support procedures for Patients who require ALS care, as approved by the OEMSTS.
  • Life support procedures for pediatric Patients who require ALS care, as approved by the OEMSTS.
  • Prehospital trauma life support procedures, as approved by OEMSTS.
