Description

Direct the educational activities of the Veterinary Programs. Develop and manage the approved curriculum and design teaching schedule.

Essential Functions

We are seeking an experienced veterinary professional to lead our Veterinary Nursing Department. As Department Chair, you will oversee all aspects of the veterinary nursing program, including curriculum development, faculty supervision, student success initiatives, and AVMA accreditation compliance. This role combines administrative leadership with hands-on teaching responsibilities to ensure educational excellence and program growth. The ideal candidate will bring both clinical expertise and educational experience to maintain high academic standards while preparing the next generation of veterinary nursing professionals.


Program Leadership & Administration

  • Lead and supervise veterinary nursing staff, including faculty evaluation and teaching assignments
  • Establish and implement departmental goals and objectives
  • Manage department budget and monitor expenditures
  • Plan and conduct department staff meetings and semi-annual Advisory Board meetings
  • Maintain AVMA accreditation records, prepare annual reports and self-study documentation

Academic Oversight

  • Develop and maintain curriculum according to approved standards, including regular evaluation of course content and textbooks
  • Collaborate with the administration on program design and implementation
  • Coordinate educational workshops and professional development for didactic and clinical faculty
  • Prepare comprehensive course and laboratory objectives
  • Monitor and maintain a minimum 80% student success rate across all program courses
  • Implement retention strategies and provide student support services

Clinical & Instructional Duties

  • Perform veterinary nursing instruction, including laboratory competency assessment
  • Evaluate student performance and provide appropriate learning accommodations
  • Maintain accurate student grades and academic records
  • Conduct clinical site visits to evaluate student performance
  • Coordinate with clinical supervisors to ensure educational effectiveness
  • Monitor and document student skill progression via competency checklists

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary program
  • Licensed DVM or credentialed veterinary technician
  • Current state/federal veterinary practice credentials

Experience

  • Three years of veterinary field experience and/or veterinary teaching experience
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred

Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated organizational and administrative capabilities

Salary

  • Hiring range $78,030-$97,535 per year
