Job Summary

This job works under the direction of the Deputy General Counsel to provide legal support to Prisma Health.

ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL – HUMAN RESOURCES

Position Summary:

The Prisma Health Legal Department is seeking an experienced attorney to provide legal advice, counsel, and representation to Prisma Health with a focus on Human Resources (HR) legal matters. The position will provide employment law advice and counseling to our HR team and other stakeholders across the organization on a broad range of issues, including recruiting, employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence, disability accommodations, wage and hour, terminations, internal investigations, compensation, workplace harassment, benefits, privacy, immigration, employee classification, and resolution of employment-related disputes and claims. While the vast majority of the responsibilities of this role will relate to employment matters, this role will assume legal generalist responsibilities from time-to-time.  This position is a preferred on-site role with a potential hybrid option.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a resource on legal issues related to policies, employee relations, compliance, and processes.
  • Draft, revise, and advise on employment-related documents, including offer letters, separation agreements, confidentiality agreements, and other related documents.
  • Provide support in negotiating the resolution of disputes or claims (e.g., EEOC).
  • Draft contracts and other legal instruments utilized throughout the system.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of laws, regulations, and business operations in order to address complex legal matters.
  • Provide support to HR management and team members in order to minimize legal risks and losses.
  • Consult with both internal and external counsel on the resolution of legal matters.
  • Proactively identify, develop, and implement policies and procedures utilized across the enterprise.
  • Develop new legal forms and templates.
  • Monitor employment law-related legislation, regulations, legal developments, and government oversight activities that may affect Prisma Health and its affiliates.
  • Translate complex legal matters into easily understood concepts for Prisma Health team members.
  • Uphold ethical and legal standards in all aspects of the role, promoting a culture of integrity and compliance within the organization.

  • Contribute to the overall success of Prisma Health by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education/Licensure: Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school is required and admission to practice law in South Carolina or another state or the District of Columbia with the ability to obtain a limited certificate of admission for in-house counsel in South Carolina.
  • Experience: Minimum ___ years of experience in employment law in a law firm and/or in-house with an emphasis on the following specialty areas: labor and employment-related litigation, administrative proceedings (state or federal), advice and counsel, and compliance issues.
  • Skills: Able to work effectively and collaboratively, with a high level of personal interaction in the office, across functions with a practical, solution-oriented mindset.
    • Able to work in a proactive, independent, and reliable manner under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment.
    • Exhibit excellent judgment, superior leadership, and strong problem-solving skills, and can proactively spot risk and deliver creative solutions.
    • Highly collaborative with the ability to build relationships across various teams and functions.
    • Effective communicator who can explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers and provide practical legal advice.
