The ProHealth Care athletic training program works with active patients to prevent and treat injury and illness, as well as to enhance performance associated with activity. Athletic trainers are health care providers who specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses. They work with other health care providers and coaches to help athletes and patients of all levels and ages with injury from practice or competitive play and daily activity. Patients who may benefit from the service of our athletic trainers include:
• Competitive and recreational athletes
• Individuals who have suffered musculoskeletal injuries
• Patients seeking strength, conditioning, fitness, performance enhancement and overall wellness

Hours: Varied hours - Day/Nights/weekends. Majority of work hours will be within a Waukesha County High school, but additional worked hours may fall weekly within an outpatient therapy or physician clinic also in Waukesha County--both locations to be determined. Work is often outdoors and year-round for event coverage. Work hours on weekends and evenings is common for event coverage.

 

What You Will Do:

The Athletic Trainer (AT) is responsible for evaluating and advising individuals to assist recovery from or avoid athletic-related injuries or illnesses or maintain peak physical fitness. May provide first aid or emergency care during sporting events. ProHealth Care's Athletic Trainers support the Waukesha County High School's athletic programs.

 

Key functions of this role include:

-Develop training programs or routines designed to improve athletic performance and implement comprehensive athletic injury or illness

-Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.

-Collaborate with physicians and physical therapists to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.
-Care for athletic injuries using physical therapy equipment, techniques, or medication.

-Apply protective or injury-preventive devices, such as tape, bandages, or braces, to body parts like ankles, fingers, or wrists.
-Confer with coaches to select protective equipment and advise athletes on equipment use.
-Evaluate athletes' readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.

-Provide athletic training services to student-athletes under the direction of the team physician or written order from a physician in accordance with the state practice act
-Instruct coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel, or community members in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
-Act as liaison between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes, and their parents.
-Schedule and participate in pre-participation sports physicals

What you will need:

Bachelor's Degree in related field.

Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC) within 90 days of hire.

Licensed Athletic Trainer in State of WI within 90 days of hire.

BLS (CPR) Certification, or ability to obtain upon hire.

AED certification within 90 days of hire.
