Why We Have This Role

Qualtrics operates in a world where security threats are evolving and being as secure as possible is paramount. The Sr. Manager, Security Engineering is essential to Qualtrics' operations, tasked with leading our Product Security and SecDev functions to protect our products and scale our security capabilities. This person will champion and enforce company-wide security engineering standards, leading a skilled team of security engineers, and collaborating across business units to address security challenges. The impact of their role is broad - they will help protect customer data, embed security into our product lifecycle, build and manage critical security infrastructure, uphold the company's reputation, and ensure ongoing secure service delivery.

• Stellar Communication: Communicate effectively at all levels and influence appropriately to create trust within the team and across the business, including with product and engineering leadership.
• Security Engineering Expertise: Broad and deep expertise in product security (including secure SDLC, threat modeling, application security) and SecDev (security tooling development, integration, automation, identity management, vulnerability scanning, CSPM).
• Collaboration Skills: Working across various product and engineering units, they will display excellent collaboration skills, building strong relationships to drive security initiatives forward.
• Decision-Making and Problem Solving: Possess strong decision-making skills, able to tackle complex security engineering issues swiftly and effectively.
• Continuous Learning: Committed to continuous learning, staying abreast of the latest security trends, threats, mitigation strategies, and new security technologies.

• Industry Exposure: As the head of Security Engineering, the person will be regularly interacting with industry leaders and participating in top security forums, widening their network and gaining industry insights.

Things You'll Do

• Lead Product Security: Drive the strategy and execution of secure development lifecycle (SDL) practices, including threat modeling, security code reviews, and developer training. Champion and enforce secure development standards across product lines.
• Oversee SecDev & Security Tooling: Lead the team responsible for the design, development, implementation, and management of security tools and integrations, including identity and access management systems, vulnerability scanning solutions (SAST, DAST, SCA, CSPM), and other security automation platforms.
• Drive Vulnerability Management Program: Establish and mature an effective vulnerability management system for both product and infrastructure, leveraging an understanding of scanning tools and remediation strategies. Ensure regular checks and swift action upon detected issues.
• Develop and Integrate Data Protection & Identity Solutions: Define, implement, and enforce robust data protection protocols and identity management solutions, ensuring adherence throughout the organization and product.
• Team Leadership & Culture: Lead and mentor a team of skilled product security and SecDev engineers. Foster a security-conscious and engineering-focused culture, promoting continuous improvement and innovation.
• Collaborate Across Business Units: Work closely with product management, engineering, operations, and other business units to integrate security seamlessly into their workflows and create a coherent front against emerging risks.

What We're Looking For On Your Resume

• While we value the wealth of experience, we put more emphasis on your capability and the outcomes you've produced. For this role, these elements are particularly important:
• Proven Leadership: Evidence of effective team leadership for over 10 years, particularly in security engineering, covering product security and/or security development/automation. Details of how you've influenced cultural shifts towards improved security practices and embedded security into development processes will be a plus.
• Expertise in Diverse Security Engineering Aspects: Proficiency in dealing with multiple security aspects, ideally in product security (SDL, AppSec, threat modeling) and SecDev (security tool development/integration, vulnerability management tooling like SAST/DAST/SCA/CSPM, IAM systems, security automation).
• Collaboration & Influence: Demonstrate your ability to collaborate and build partnerships across different business units, particularly with engineering and product teams, working towards unified security objectives.
• Proactive Problem-Solving & Innovation: Share instances where you acted swiftly and effectively to manage potential vulnerabilities or address complex security engineering challenges. Evidence of innovating in security processes or tooling.
• Strategy Development & Delivery: Ideally, you've defined and implemented security engineering or product security strategies in previous roles, driving transformative outcomes and delivering complex, high-impact security projects.
