Organization Overview

The Office of Technology Transfer (“OTT”) at The Rockefeller University manages and oversees all aspects of commercially relevant intellectual property generated by the University's world-class scientific research laboratories. OTT supports the University's research enterprise through a variety of activities, including scouting for new technologies internally within the University, patenting inventions, identifying commercial partners, negotiating licensing transactions, and monitoring post-transaction compliance.
Overview

We seek an Alliance Officer to support pioneering programs (both existing and future) aimed at translating Rockefeller's scientific discoveries into commercial products in the form of therapeutics, diagnostics, medical devices, and other products.

 

The Alliance Officer is responsible for maintaining strategic partnerships with commercial licensees of Rockefeller's intellectual property, as well as serving as the main point of contact and advocate for Rockefeller's faculty and researchers involved in the university's multi-institution collaborations and consortia. Existing relationships include New York's new Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, the Metropolitan AntiViral Drug Accelerator, and the Tri-Institutional Therapeutics Discovery Institute.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an early career candidate with excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and a strong ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously. This is an ideal role for a candidate who wishes to grow in this field. OTT will provide a significant level of on-the-job training, with the expectation that the successful candidate will gain autonomy over time, and serve as a trusted partner within OTT, as well as with key internal and external stakeholders.


Responsibilities

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Act as a point of contact for partner-related inquiries within the organization; connect OTT and laboratories to further develop RU's intellectual property.
  • Manage contract-related matters for internal stakeholders and external partners. Track, analyze, and report on the performance of the partnerships. Provide regular updates and insights.
  • Address and resolve any conflicts or issues that arise in a time-sensitive manner to maintain a smooth and productive partnership.
  • Staff and attend partnership meetings and conferences as needed
  • Comply with the enforcement of provisions of commercial licenses involving University intellectual property.
  • Prepare reports for university leadership outlining activities and updates, including recommendations for improvement on select partnerships.
  • Under the guidance of the Associate Vice President, Technology Transfer, collaborate and support University projects.
  • Review funding agreements to negotiate IP provisions, coordinating with OTT's licensing team as needed.
  • Perform other related duties assigned, including limited work-related travel.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• BS in life sciences, biotechnology, or a closely related field
• Experience in contract compliance, technology transactions, alliance management, partnership development, a similar role in an organization engaged in life sciences or healthcare, or an extensive and formal internship program in technology transfer.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
• Experience reviewing and summarizing executed contracts.
• Understanding life science-based technologies' scientific, clinical, and commercial development.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple simultaneous tasks and responsibilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; must have experience scheduling meetings and managing virtual platforms (e.g., Zoom).

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
• Experience redlining and negotiating contracts.
• Experience in translational science and/or clinical trial environment.
• Working knowledge of academic technology transfer.
• MS, JD, or other advanced degree. Other educational backgrounds and comparable real-world experience will be considered if accompanied by a proven track record in life sciences, biotechnology, or closely related fields.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.


Compensation Range: Min

USD $70,000.00/Yr.
Compensation Range: Max

USD $80,000.00/Yr.
