Description

Organization Overview

Our laboratory uses molecular and genetic approaches in mice to shed light on how skin stem cells make and repair tissues – and how this process goes awry in genetic diseases, cancers, and inflammatory disorders.
Overview

The Rockefeller University, a leading biomedical research institution, seeks a part-time Research Assistant to join the Fuchs Laboratory of Mammalian Cell Biology & Development. This individual will work as part of a highly talented team of molecular, cell, and developmental biologists seeking an understanding of the properties of adult skin stem cells and how aberrations in their biology can lead to skin disorders, including cancers.

An internal candidate has been identified for this role.

Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will perform basic cell culture work, high content drug screens, lentivirus production. Specific tasks include:

  • Performing cell culture (maintenance, freezing, 2D and 3D/spheroids, conditional cell medium preparation, lentivirus production)
  • Performing drug screens at The Rockefeller University High Throughput and Spectroscopy Resource Center including the following types of assay for optimization studies: seeding density titration, DMSO tolerance test, dose response curve (EC50 determination)
  • Reporting of the assay optimization results along with plots of the assay optimization experiments
  • Performing Primary pilot screens using curated and annotated real compound libraries utilizing microplate-based bioassay detection system and automated liquid pipetting and microplate processing
  • Performing hit confirmation and validation studies confirming selectivity, mechanism of action and identifying artifacts
  • Performing assays utilizing different readout technology (Seahorse assay, Lipid Droplet staining using Operetta Microscopy System) for additional verification of the hits, their targets and pathways

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Must possess knowledge of MacOS and proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • A high degree of organization, and the ability to work independently are essential for the position. The applicant must have a comprehensive experience in biology techniques, including cell culture, microscopy and immunofluorescence analysis

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in science desirable
  • Previous experience with drug screens and target identification is highly desirable

The Rockefeller University does not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, membership in an employee organization, retaliation, parental status, military service or other non-merit factor. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to the characteristics listed above.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
