Regular Company: Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center Department: Information Technology Time Type: Full time Weekly Hours: 40 FTE: 1 Shift: First Shift (United States of America) Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Wireless Engineer with a strong background in designing, implementing, and optimizing wireless network solutions. This role will involve managing various wireless technologies, Network Access Control (NAC), and Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure across a large campus environment. You will be responsible for ensuring seamless wireless connectivity and performance, along with managing campus network administration using industry-standard switches from Cisco, Juniper, or other leading vendors. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in wireless network management, NAC (e.g., Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), Aruba ClearPass), and switch configuration. • Utilize heat map tools to analyze wireless coverage and signal strength across the network.
• Identify and address coverage gaps, interference issues, and optimize wireless performance.
• Monitor and optimize SNR levels for reliable connectivity.
• Manage 5GHz and 2.4GHz frequency channels to enhance network performance and mitigate interference.
• Adjust wireless configurations to improve network efficiency and minimize interference.
• Configure and manage various authentication methods such as EAP, PEAP, TTLS, and certificate-based authentication.
• Use Radius Servers for wireless client authentication and access control.
• Deploy and manage Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) technologies for asset and personnel tracking.
• Implement and manage NAC solutions such as Cisco ISE and Aruba ClearPass to ensure secure network access.
• Ensure Layer 1 cabling standards for wireless AP deployments and maintain proper cable management.
• Configure switch ports, including VLANs, trunking, and port security, to support wireless APs and other network devices.
• Handle adds, moves, and changes in network configuration to support evolving organizational needs.
• Provide mentorship to junior network/security administrators and offer training on best practices for network security.
• Work with IT Service Management tools (e.g., ServiceNow) to manage network incidents and requests effectively.
Requirements:
• Strong experience in configuring and managing wireless networks, including the use of heat maps, channel management, and wireless security.
• Proficiency in configuring Radius servers for wireless authentication and authorization, including the use of various EAP methods.
• Hands-on experience with LAN technologies, including VLANs, port security, and link aggregation.
• Experience in deploying and managing NAC solutions such as Cisco ISE or Aruba ClearPass.
• Understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, and Radius.
• Knowledge of security best practices for wireless networks, including encryption standards (WPA2, WPA3) and access control policies.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex wireless network issues, including connectivity problems, interference, and performance degradation.
• Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools for wireless problem identification and resolution.
Salary range for this position is $ 88,639 - $111,897 annually which includes a comprehensive benefits package. Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
1. Master's degree and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking or computer systems security as it relates to technology used at the organization; or
2. Bachelor's degree and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience as a Network Technician at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center; or
3. Bachelor's degree and the equivalent of four (4) of full-time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking or computer systems security as it relates to technology used at the organization; or
4. Associates degree and the equivalent of six (6) years of full‐time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking or computer systems security as it relates to technology used at the organization; or
5. High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of eight (8) years of full‐time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking or computer systems security as it relates to technology used at the organization.
NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
Preferred Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have the following skills/experiences:
