SAIC seeks an experienced and energetic, highly experienced Architecture Engineer to directly support the modernization of the space launch ranges, meeting mission requirements, providing range capabilities, and supporting the Digital Transformation and Maintenance Modernization (DTAMM) program. The overarching purpose of the program is to perform system modernization and digital transformation projects that will enable the acceleration of the space launch cadence to enable the Spaceport of the future. This position is located in Santa Maria, California. This supports cross discipline Architecture Engineering tied to Hardware, Software, Cyber, IT networks systems, Cloud (AWS/GovCloud), and/or Ground Communication Systems. The Systems Architect is responsible for working with the Western and Eastern Range System Architects to establish a vision and path forward to support incremental functionality and capabilities to the ranges. The ideal candidate would have worked on communication systems, launch operations, commercial systems, and/or in a DoD environment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Define System level architecture (IT/Telemetry/Electrical/Software), incremental solution capabilities, and key interfaces of the system while considering design, technology maturity, cost, and schedule constraints of the system.
- Write technical system requirements derived from market, stakeholders, and customer requirements and working across multiple directorates and offices to identify and define future space capabilities.
- Author interface control documents, system descriptions, whitepapers, and other key technical documents for internal and external stakeholders.
- Supports defining strategic roadmaps for future technology investigations and capability assessments, advising the government about new technologies, trade studies, analysis of alternatives, and technology assessments.
- Manage groups of Systems and Hardware engineers on the scope of new projects.
Qualifications
Required Education:
- Bachelors and eighteen (18) years or more experience; Masters and sixteen (16) years or more experience; PhD or JD and fifteen years or more experience.
Desired Education:

Bachelor's degree in an engineering (Electrical/Software/Computer Science/Computer Engineering/ Information Technology), or equivalent technical discipline
Required Experience:
- Familiar with MBSE tools and procedures that support requirements/analysis/trades/visualization/traceability/test (DOORS/JIRA/CAMEO).
- Working in fast paced agile sprints to deliver capabilities and functionality rapidly as tied to a holistic architectural vision and plan.
- Working knowledge of systems engineering full lifecycle including concepts of operations, architecture development, interface control documents, and verification and test.
- Ability to provide technical and programmatic direction on the development, integration, and use of MBSE.
- Strong communication skills both written and oral and demonstrates leadership capabilities tied to working as a team player requiring collaboration, open communication, and willingness to work in a pair-programming style collaborative work environment.
Desired Experience:
- Advanced degree in STEM (science, technical, engineering, math) or related discipline with emphasis on MBSE and Systems Design.
- Proficient understanding of fundamental model development and its application to architecture or system design
- Experience in DOORS, JIRA, Cameo, STK, and modeling frameworks (UAF).
- Proven experience with architecture frameworks (DoDAF).
Clearance:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active Secret Clearance.
Target salary range: $160,001 - $200,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
