SAIC is searching for a Cybersecurity Engineer Associate who performs high-level, day-to-day support of the Department of Veterans Affairs cybersecurity mission to ensure VA can actively protect the vital health information with which it is entrusted, respond to existing and emerging cybersecurity threats, and continue to enhance the program to ensure VA has the capability and capacity to respond to new and emerging requirements, technologies and threats.

 

Responsibilities: 

·      Works in accordance with enterprise IT change and configuration management policies, implements changes to cybersecurity and/or cyberspace operational systems, software, appliances, devices, etc.

·      Implements system configuration and monitoring changes in order to increase effectiveness or efficiencies in the system s capabilities in regards to monitoring and implementing logical access controls in order to enforce policy.

·      May support cybersecurity  metrics development, maintenance, and reporting. Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs cybersecurity and/or cyberspace operations application software using secure coding practices.

·      Provides specific, detailed information for selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements, facility requirements, data storage, backup, monitoring, operating systems, directory services, identity management, access management, and automation.

·      Ensures compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.

·      Writing technical documentation and knowledge of Cloud and Security concepts.

Qualifications

Education Required:

·      Bachelors degree and 1+ years related experience.

·      Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field.

·      Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CISP, CISSP are a plus.

Experience Required:

·      Knowledge of cloud computing models, architecture, design, and security evaluation.

·      Knowledge of vulnerability management and Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), with Privacy Impact Assessments, and security categorizations.

·      Knowledge FIPS 199, NIST SP 800-37, NIST SP 800-53 REV 4, FISMA/NIST A&A.

·      Experience with and knowledge of: National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards Strong governance, risk and compliance experience, Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide (SRG).

·      Experience with public cloud solutions (AWS or Azure).

·      Proven ability to work with clients, business partners and suppliers.

·      Understanding of fundamental cybersecurity concepts and best practices.

·      Familiarity with security frameworks and standards such as NIST, ISO27001, and CIS Controls.

·      Basic understanding of network protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).

·      Knowledge of network security tools and techniques.

·      Familiarity with Windows, Linux, and Unix operating systems.

·      Basic knowledge of system hardening and securing operating systems.

·      Understanding of common types of cyber threats, malware, and attack vectors.

·      Basic experience with incident response processes and tools.

·      Familiarity with security tools such as antivirus software, vulnerability scanners, and SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) systems.

·      Basic knowledge of encryption technologies and secure communication protocols.

·      Basic proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

·      Ability to write simple scripts for automation and cybersecurity tasks.

·      Understanding of risk management principles and ability to assist in conducting risk assessments.

·      Familiarity with concepts of identity and access management, including authentication and authorization.

·      Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

·      Ability to think critically and approach problems methodically.

·      Good verbal and written communication skills.

·      Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

·      Strong attention to detail to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities.

·      Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

·      Willingness to learn from more experienced team members and contribute to team goals.

·      Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing cybersecurity landscapes.

·      Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity through coursework, projects, internships, or self-study.

·      Strong sense of ethics and commitment to protecting sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.

·      Willingness to pursue ongoing education and certifications in the field of cybersecurity.

Clearance Requirement

US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance


Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
