Description

Description

SAIC is seeking an organized, motivated, and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team supporting design, development, and integration of mobility systems.

You will be working in a dynamic fast-paced environment in support of the Special Projects Office within Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane supporting rapid development, prototyping, and production of cutting-edge adaptive warfare technologies.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a balance of technical experience across a wide spectrum of mobility platform initiatives, with experience in handling mid-level engineering responsibilities. You will be part of a collaborative team of engineers and support technicians working to bring a variety of mechanical designs from the early concept stage all the way through fabrication. This role will support mechanical equipment design, system design, testing, and troubleshooting. Support can vary from Research and Development (R&D) to production support and include accelerated development and fielding of various technologies to address emergent warfighter requirements. This role focuses on providing mechanical engineering experience coupled with knowledge of hybrid electric power, chassis design and development, prototyping, and the ability to evaluate similar aspects against defined operational and technical parameters. The selected individual will design mechanical solutions for system integration, including mounting systems and equipment enclosures. The role also involves packaging designs for transportation and engineering considerations for material/weight handling and structural loading. We are looking for a candidate capable of high-level output centered on the application of mechanical engineering to facilitate the integration and production of various mobility prototypes, including alternative power options as well as unique mobility platforms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist senior team members with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues on mechanical systems and components.
  • Support and collaborate with technicians and support personnel in preparing detailed designs, documentation, testing protocols, and prototype fabrication.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure compliance with engineering standards and design objectives.
  • Address dimensional, load-bearing, and material specifications for mounting and structural elements.
  • Participate in system testing and validation efforts to align mechanical designs with program requirements and operational scenarios.
  • Perform analyses related to structural loading, vibration, and dynamic forces to ensure reliability in harsh operational environments
  • Ability to analyze stress, vibration, and mechanical fatigue to ensure component/system integrity.
  • Experience working with manufacturing processes such as machining, 3D printing, or sheet metal fabrication.
  • Knowledge of materials science and the selection of materials appropriate to mechanical systems and structural applications.
  • Experience in designing mechanical components such as enclosures, mounts, and assemblies for ruggedized environments.
  • Hands-on ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and identify solutions.
  • Ability to read and understand basic electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments and testing for new or modified designs, reporting findings to stakeholders.
  • Provide technical contributions to the project's documentation and technical writing efforts.
  • Experience with engineering design, modeling, analysis, testing, and drawing development utilizing CAD software.
  • Create 3D models of electromechanical systems and the associated 2D fabrication drawings of all hardware.
  • Experience contributing to engineering documentation for technical data packages, including drawings, test procedures, and specifications.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university and zero years of experience.
  • Strong foundation in mechanical engineering, physics, and mathematical modeling.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and verbal / written communication skills, able to convey information across multiple customer and corporate audiences
  • Must be able to work in a team environment while completing assigned tasks with limited supervision.
  • Experience writing and interpreting technical reports, requirements and interface documents, white papers, and proposals
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, CREO, or similar tools) for mechanical design and documentation.
  • Advanced skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Interim secret clearance required to start with the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance. SAIC will sponsor the clearance process if necessary.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) programs
  • Experience with reverse engineering electronic and electrical systems
  • Experience with DoD weapons systems or other military mobility systems
  • Professional Licenses and Certifications, such as a Professional Engineer (PE), Fundamentals of Engineering (FE).
