SAIC is seeking an Operations and Maintenance Systems Engineer to ensure the continuous availability and performance of our critical systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring system performance, implementing maintenance protocols, and troubleshooting operational issues. They will work closely with other engineering staff to improve system reliability and efficiency while minimizing downtime. This position is in Reston, VA.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify and document recurring system and software O&M activities including maintaining and enhancing interfaces to and from COTS software.
  • Monitor and document operations performed by end users, system operators, and system maintainers including periodic, scheduled maintenance, etc.
  • Develop and implement maintenance procedures to reduce system downtime and increase overall efficiency
  • Support corrective, preventive, and other maintenance activities and processes
  • Identify and document improvements to maintenance activities
  • Document hardware and software maintenance tasks to include actions and licenses required to successfully provide O&M support to the system.
  • Monitor system performance and user operations to detect and/or analyze anomalies and identify adjustments to improve IT performance, shorten timelines, reduce burden, and promote innovations.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks
  • Support planning, executing, and managing enterprise data backup, DR, and COOP operations
  • Contribute to the development of maintenance strategies and innovative solutions for system optimization
  • Follow procedures to maintain virtual and physical servers, applications, and interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in a timely and effective manner
  • Document maintenance and repair activities, including keeping records of system performance and failures
  • Work with IT and engineering teams to plan and coordinate system updates and maintenance windows
  • Work with other teams maintaining servers and other systems.
  • Follow documented procedures that define system support, diagnostic software, and configuration settings.
  • Planning for and responding to service outages and other problems.
  • Support application and system upgrades in collaboration with other teams.
  • Monitor and manage system resources and identify opportunities to optimize system performance.
  • Perform system startup, shutdown, diagnostics, file management, user and group setups, and determination of login scripts.
  • Assist in the coordination of system downtime planned for maintenance, system patches, upgrades, or new releases.
  • Perform data and file storage administration and related functions including provisioning and monitoring backups and restorations.
  • Participate in emergency response teams and provide on-call support for critical issues

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience

 

Desired Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, management information systems, or equivalent experience

 

Required Experience:

  • Strong understanding of the principles of systems engineering, IT infrastructure, and operational best practices
  • Proficiency in systems analysis and troubleshooting
  • Experience with automation tools and scripting languages
  • Familiarity with standard industry practices, including ITIL or other service management frameworks
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work accordingly
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

 

Desired Experience:

  • Certifications relevant to systems engineering, such as a Systems Engineering Professional certification, or IT service management, like ITIL

 

Clearance:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active TS/SCI with the required poly.
