We are currently seeking a motivated Drafter/CAD Operator I to join our talented team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating technical drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software, following established guidelines under supervision, while demonstrating strong attention to detail, proficiency in relevant CAD programs, and a foundational understanding of engineering principles and industry standards.
Work is performed on site in Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.
This position is contingent upon award news Spring of 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create simple 2D and 3D drawings using CAD software like AutoCAD, Solidworks, or Revit, including lines, shapes, dimensions, and annotations based on provided design sketches or specifications.
- Input data into the CAD system accurately, including coordinates, dimensions, and material specifications.
- Adhere to established drafting standards and conventions, including layer management, line types, and annotation styles.
- Make edits to existing drawings as directed, such as adding details, redlines, adjusting dimensions, or updating layouts.
- Perform quality checks on own drawings to ensure accuracy of dimensions, alignments, and compliance with project requirements.
- Communicate effectively with engineers, designers, and other team members to clarify project needs and receive feedback.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Associates degree in Drafting or related scientific discipline; OR completion of formal resident trade school or apprentice program in drafting.
- 0-2 years of professional experience as a drafter preparing engineering drawings, circuit schematics, and illustrations using AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of CAD functions, including drawing tools, editing commands, and navigation within AutoCAD.
- Ability to interpret and read technical engineering drawings and schematics based on layouts, sketches, or redlines.
- High level of precision and accuracy when creating drawings, ensuring all dimensions and annotations are correct.
- Understanding of unit conversions to accurately depict specifications on drawings.
- Ability to clearly communicate with engineers and other team members regarding design changes, clarifications, and potential issues.
- Ability to identify and resolve minor drafting errors or inconsistencies in drawings.
- Willingness to learn new CAD features and adapt to changing project requirements.
Desired:
- Experience using AutoCAD for shipboard electronics systems or equipment.
- Experience drafting/illustrating in the electronics field, to include:
- computerized drafting applications
- digital imaging techniques
- use of AutoCAD/Inventor or similar software
- plan and prepare graphic presentations of complex item
- Experience with DoD processes and procedures.
Required Security Clearance:
- US Citizenship required.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
- Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is preferred.
