We are currently seeking a motivated Drafter/CAD Operator IV to join our talented team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating detailed 2D and 3D design drawings using CAD software, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications, collaborating with engineers and other team members, and leading a team of drafters by reviewing their work and providing guidance.

Work is performed on site in Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.

This position is contingent upon award news Spring of 2026.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Translate conceptual designs into precise technical drawings using CAD software.
  • Incorporate design changes and updates based on feedback from engineers and other team members.
  • Lead and mentor a team of drafters, assigning tasks and reviewing their work for accuracy.
  • Manage project timelines and ensure deliverables meet deadlines.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines (electrical, electronics) to maintain design consistency.
  • Stay updated with the latest CAD software functionalities and industry standards.
  • Apply advanced CAD techniques like parametric modeling and 3D rendering.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers and other project stakeholders to clarify design intent.
  • Provide technical support and answer questions regarding drawings.
  • Actively participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Drafting or related scientific discipline; OR completion of formal resident trade school or apprentice program in drafting.
  • Ten (10) years of professional experience as a drafter preparing Level 3 engineering drawings, circuit schematics, and illustrations using AutoCAD for shipboard electronics systems or equipment.
    Autodesk Certified Professional in Inventor for Mechanical/Electrical Design or in AutoCAD for Design and Drafting certification preferred.
  • Eight (8) years of experience drafting/illustrating in the electronics field, to include: 
    • computerized drafting applications
    • digital imaging techniques
    • use of AutoCad/Inventor or similar software
    • plan and prepare graphic presentations of complex items
  • Experience with DoD processes and procedures.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with engineers and other team members regarding design changes, clarifications, and potential issues.

Required Security Clearance:

  • US Citizenship required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
    • Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is preferred.
