SAIC is seeking a Communication Subsystem Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) support the NRO Electro-Optical System Program Office (ESPO).  Qualified candidates must possess demonstrated space communication experience and be able to provide technical and programmatic insight across a wide variety of satellite activities.  Initial responsibilities will focus on the spacecraft communication subsystem and its individual components.  Duties may adjust as spacecraft progresses through design, development, integration, and test towards launch.  The successful candidate will work both independently and in a team-based environment.

Key duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work in an interactive team environment with Government customer leads, spacecraft developers, and other subject matter experts.
  • Assist in requirements development, and support requirements flow-down and traceability.  Assist with ensuring compliance to interfaces and standards, or ensure appropriate deviations/waivers are in place.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to support design, development, manufacture, integration, and test of communication subsystems and components.
  • Evaluate development contractor space vehicle Design Trade Study results and assess potential impacts and risks.  Identify risks to program plans and schedules, and support development of corrective action plans.
  • Evaluate system, subsystem and unit level design, as necessary, to determine if the design is adequate to meet program technical performance requirements within cost and schedule constraints.
  • Confirm requirements verification by evaluating unit, subsystem, and vehicle performance and environmental test data, analysis, and inspection results.
  • Participate in Failure Review Boards (FRBs) to troubleshoot and resolve anomalies and test failures.  Develop mitigation plans and identify impacts to subsystems and spacecraft performance.
  • Participate as a member of the Space Vehicle Launch & Initialization (L&I) Team in support of the communication subsystem activation and initial operation.
  • Travel within the U.S. – 1 time per month for approximately 2-3 days per trip.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or in a relevant technical discipline
  • 7 or more years of engineering experience with design and development of communication subsystems
  • Experience working in a spacecraft system program office (SPO) or a satellite development facility
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desired Qualification :

  • MS in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or in a relevant technical field
  • 7 or more years of engineering experience with communication subsystems and spacecraft bus systems
  • Experience with multiple spacecraft programs and a variety of satellite busses
  • Experience with early life-cycle satellite engineering activities/milestones, spacecraft integration and test, and Launch and Initialization (L&I) activities
