THE OPPORTUNITY:

As the Sr. Paralegal Manager you will plan, direct and coordinate all aspects of firm-wide paralegal and case assistant activities. In this role you will drive Firm-wide strategic direction and management of recruiting, onboarding, integration, training, performance management, utilization and work allocation in conjunction with Department Practice Operations (DPO). Under the direction of a Senior Director, and in collaboration with firm attorneys, you will manage financial and administrative matters for the Paralegal Department. You will stay abreast of legal trends and develop strategies ensuring superior paralegal and case assistant support.

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

On any given day you will:

  • Analyze existing paralegal processes and staffing structures; recommends and implements changes as necessary. Introduces strategic and innovative approaches to process improvement focusing on overall operation of the team with a focus toward client service and productivity. Continuously reviews and enhances policies and procedures in consultation with human resources.
  • Proactively addresses attorney and client paralegal support needs. Monitors utilization and realization of all paralegals and case assistants; adjusts resources as appropriate to meet attorney and client needs across offices.
  • Ensure efficient workflow, substantive training, and proper communication of Firm and administrative matters amongst paralegal and case assistant teams
  • Ensure the success of paralegal and case assistant operations according to standard business metrics such asbillable hours expectations, client and supervising attorney satisfaction, quality of work product and compliance with all firm policies, including in-office work expectations.
  • Collaborate with Office Administrators, Department Chairs, and Office Managing Partners in the on-site management of paralegal and case assistant productivity and effectiveness
  • Manage appropriate workloads, monitors billable and non-billable work.
  • Ensure accurate and timely tracking of hours worked and billable hours.
  • Consistently assesses staffing levels to ensure appropriate paralegal and case assistant ratio levels are maintained; makes recommendations for change
  • Collaborate with Partners and Human Resources to recruit, interview and hire paralegals and case assistants
  • Facilitate and coordinates annual performance evaluation and compensation review, in addition to providing continuous performance management, feedback to paralegals and case assistants
  • Partner with training department and supervisory attorneys to ensure overall proper training and professional development for paralegals and case assistants
  • Ensure effective communication, collaboration and cooperation between paralegals, case assistants, attorneys and other functional departments.
  • Build relationships with paralegal and case assistant teams as well as firm leaders, attorneys across the Firm to accomplish responsibilities and goals
  • Perform other duties as directed by Firm Management.

     

     

    YOU HAVE:

  • A Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience as a paralegal in a mid to large size law firm and a minimum of 5 years of managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated performance history of strong leadership, collaboration, communication, customer service and problem solving skills in large law firm environment
  • Possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills along with the ability to work well with lawyers and staff at all levels within the Firm while maintaining confidentiality
  • Proven organizational and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team while providing performance counseling and working to resolve conflicts
  • Possess knowledge of recruiting practices, employee relations and paralegal compensation and billings systems
  • The ability to resolve discreetly and effectively sensitive attorney and staff issues
  • The ability to work well in a fast paced environment while managing multiple and changing deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to do internal marketing while staying business minded with a focus on department utilization as a business unit
  • The ability to pay close attention to detail
  • The ability to regularly report to work on the days and times scheduled

Chicago: The full time salary range for this role is 160,000 to $175,000 annually.

 

Los Angeles: The full time salary range for this role is 175,000 to 185,000 annually. 

 

San Francisco:  The full time salary range for this role is $175,000 to $185,000 annually.

 

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role in the locations listed above at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographical location and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for an annual merit increase and bonus pay.
