We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to join the Press Operations team as a Press Operator Assistant at our Austin, Minnesota facility. Every day we bring our customers' labels and packaging to life, creating a customer experience that is second to none, and enabling them to stand out over the competition. Imagine walking through stores and seeing our labels on your favorite products and brands!

Day or Night Shift Available: 3 day/12.25 hour shifts on a rotating schedule

Training Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm for approximately 8 weeks

Compensation for Press Operator Assistant is based on the skills and experiences brought to Smyth

Key Responsibilities for Press Operator Assistant include: 

  • Efficient support with setup, operation, and maintenance of the press, focusing on meeting specifications in product quality, safety, and management of material and product waste
  • Preparing and maintaining appropriate documentation for the pressroom
  • Contributing to a team effort, collectively ensuring the press is stocked with all necessary materials and operating properly to enable focus on the art of producing the labels
  • Observing company work rules and safety regulations
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area and pressroom
  • Working within an innovative culture, striving to create and develop new products for our customers

The ideal candidate for Press Operator Assistant must demonstrate:

  • Ability to follow standard work procedures, make fact-based decisions, troubleshoot, and problem-solve areas of opportunity to keep the workflow running smoothly and efficiently
  • Effective time management skills on multiple long- and short-term projects, meeting all related deadlines
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing processes and technologies (tools, hardware and software)
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and relationship-building skills to effectively work with a diverse group/variety of people and personalities
  • High levels of customer service, responding promptly, clearly, concisely, and accurately to the inquires and needs of individuals, both internal and external to the organization
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to all levels of people inside and outside the organization

Education, Skills, and Experience for Press Operator Assistant:

  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Required: Mechanical aptitude
  • Preferred: Experience with measurements and calculations 
  • A Plus: Knowledge of and/or experience with Lean Manufacturing and ISO quality systems
