About the Role:
We are seeking a Development DBA to work as part of our Backend Engineering Team. The post holder will support our software engineers . The DBA will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance of our database systems, ensuring high availability and consistent performance across all environments. The post holder will collaborate closely with backend developers, DevOps, and product teams to support scalable, secure, and efficient data solutions. In addition, the role will be responsible for ensuring our databases are documented to comply with GDPR regulations, with data being deleted at the appropriate time.
Your Responsibilities:
- Database Design & Architecture:
- Collaborate with software engineers to design and optimize database schemas.
- Ensure data models align with application requirements and performance goals.
- Performance Tuning & Optimization:
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies.
- Analyse query performance and recommend improvements.
- Maintenance & Monitoring:
- Perform regular database maintenance tasks including indexing, and updates.
- Set up and manage monitoring tools to ensure database health and uptime in collaboration with the Infrastructure Team.
- Security & Compliance:
- Implement and maintain database security policies.
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
- Automation & CI/CD Integration:
- Work with DevOps to integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines.
- Automate routine tasks using scripts and tools.
- Incident Response & Troubleshooting:
- Respond to database-related incidents and outages.
- Provide root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of database systems and procedures.
- Share knowledge and best practices with engineering teams;
Your Experience:
- Proven experience as a DBA in a software engineering environment.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis) is a plus.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL).
- Knowledge of database versioning and migration tools (e.g., Flyway, Liquibase).
- Understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Certified DBA with any major database vendor
