Overview

Buildings and General Services (BGS) at the State of Vermont has an exciting opportunity with room for growth as a BGS Maintenance Mechanic II. This position will join a team in maintaining the Waterbury State Office Complex buildings. We are looking for a motivated individual with building mechanic skills to perform many tasks.

 

This is a full-time position Monday through Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm with some overtime. A valid drivers license and successful completion of multiple background checks will be required for this position.

 

The Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) is a diverse organization with over 340 employees serving state agencies and departments within state Government. BGS provides the facilities services required for all state agencies and departments to accomplish their missions. Environmental Factors

Duties are performed at state buildings including correctional facilities. Contact with inmates may be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Must be able to climb ladders, lift weights up to 75 pounds, and work in cramped, wet, or poorly ventilated areas. Plumbing repairs often entail exposure to raw sewage, for which protective clothing must be worn. Work in all types of weather should be anticipated. May require possession of a valid driver's license. May require emergency response to calls outside of regular work hours. Some potential for physical injury may be present.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) or more years of experience in building construction, structural maintenance, or building repair and maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of a vocational/technical training program in building trades, mechanical repair, industrial arts, or a closely related field.

Special Requirements

Some positions in this class may require a valid driver's license and/or own transportation for travel between work sites.

A criminal record check and/or child abuse registry check may be required for some positions within this class based on the locations where duties are to be performed.
