Description

Overview

Oversees the operations of living units within a correctional facility. Supervises and trains caseworkers in the development and implementation of case plans, in the provision of intervention programs for offenders, and in the coordination of inmate activities within the assigned unit(s). Coordinates with Vermont Correctional Industries staff, work crew supervisors, risk and need reducing services and with educational personnel in the selection and enrollment of inmates in work or education programs. Coordinates the transfer of inmates to and from the facility. May coordinate the movement of inmates.  Oversees many complex systems and must maintain a working knowledge of all of them. May be the Americans with Disabilities Act and/or Grievance Coordinator for the facility. Responsible for adherence to the Prison Rape Elimination Act. Coordinates with external partners relevant to court proceedings. May oversee the assignment of inmates to work crews within the facility. Provides supportive supervision to subordinate staff. Coordinates the delivery of outside services by contractual providers. May be assigned to conduct disciplinary or incident investigations. Participates, with other members of the facility management team, in the review of overall facility operations. Performs related duties as required.

 

As of July 14, 2024 the step 1 rate for pay grade 26 will be $33.03 per hour.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed within the confines of an adult correctional facility. Considerable interaction occurs with inmates and involves potentially dangerous situations. High stress situations and rapid decision making can be expected.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma AND three (3) years or more of professional level human services casework, including at least one year in a correctional setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

Supervisory experience

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
