The Vermont Department of Labor exists to improve the lives of working Vermonters. The Department's Workforce Development Division administers Federal and State programs that help people experience meaningful employment by connecting them to Vermont businesses. The Vermont Department of Labor is headquartered in Montpelier with job centers in 11 communities across the state.

 

We are looking for a Workforce Expansion Program Coordinator based in Addison County. Supervised by the VDOL Workforce Expansion Program Manager, the Workforce Expansion Program Coordinator will work with PROFESSIONALISM and INTEGRITY to support the Workforce Expansion Program (WEP) in this region. The WEP Coordinator will work closely with Addison County Economic Development (ACEDC) to develop and implement their two-year WEP Action Plan. 

 

The WEP Coordinator will work with ACEDC to reinforce and expand the work of the Addison County Workforce Alliance (ACWA), a group of community partners involved in workforce development in manufacturing and healthcare. The WEP Coordinator will support ACEDC to better coordinate job training, clarify career pathways, and support outreach to underemployed populations, particularly youth, people with disabilities, and adults without a high school diploma.

 

Key responsibilities:
•    Convene and provide support to the Regional Partnership;
•    Support development of an Action Plan;
•    Provide technical assistance and resources, and;
•    Support data collection and evaluation.

The ideal candidate will have: 
•    Previous experience in workforce or economic development.
•    Strong skills in communication, planning, relationship-building, conflict resolution, and facilitation. 
•    Experience with project management and tracking and communicating results.
•    Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Microsoft Teams, hosting Teams Meetings, and Word, Excel, etc.
•    The ability to be a self-starter and to work as part of a team.
•    Knowledge of manufacturing and health care sectors is a plus. 

 

This position is home-based, and candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance to and be familiar with working in Addison County. This work requires being in person with employers and organizations. In some cases, travel to VDOL offices, including Montpelier, may be required. You must provide your own transportation. Remote work eligibility and scheduling is determined on a case-by-case basis, based on the needs of the Department, and must be consistent with State and Department policies.

This position, Workforce Expansion Coordinator - Limited Service (Job Requisition #52864), is open to all State employees and external applicants. It is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized for a specific period of time. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a variety of settings, including home office, public meeting space and project sites. In-state travel is required. The employee must frequently communicate, coordinate, and interact with state agencies, regional development corporations, local governments, nongovernmental organizations, the academic community, businesses and service providers. Short deadlines and community meetings may require some work outside of normal office hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years or more of professional level experience in employment programs, human services, community or economic development, marketing, or business relations.

OR

Associates degree AND four (4) years or more of professional level experience in employment programs, human services, community or economic development, marketing or business relations.

OR

High School diploma or equivalent AND six (6) years or more of professional level experience in employment programs, human services, community or economic development, marketing, or business relations.
