Stifel's 250-member Municipal Securities Group is seeking a Municipal Underwriting Assistant to join our Municipal Capital Markets underwriting desks in San Francisco, CA and Denver, CO.  The candidate will join the Municipal Underwriting team and work directly with the Head of Municipal Underwriting and Senior Underwriters across the country. The candidate will quickly gain a working knowledge of trading and underwriting systems, information dissemination tools and with increasingly responsibility will process transactions and coordinate internal and external communication.  This role requires diligent oversight of the new issue process and trading platforms and with a demonstrated ability to multi-task, communicate clearly and operate decisively in a fast-paced environment.



What We're Looking For

  • Monitor and communicate syndicate balances, inventory positions, maintaining orders/indications of interest, and P&L. 
  • Update new issues in IPREO system with relevant information for competitive/negotiated deals as needed, generating necessary correspondence, writing money, etc.
  • Review and update internal systems with all new issue information and scheduling as transactions come to market.
  • Operate syndicate Bloomberg functions regarding deal distribution, pricing and messaging.
  • Distribute invoices to internal Accounts Payable and maintain/organize communications
  • Communicate with Compliance staff to ensure all deal information is accurately updated for daily distribution of reports to multiple departments.
  • Maintain various databases and Excel spreadsheet.
  • Work with back office on trade reconcilations.
  • Create, maintain and update electronic deal files. 
  • Assist syndicate with internal phone communications as needed.


What You'll Bring

  • Some trading desk experience is preferred along with intermediate knowledge of markets, principles and processes associated with Municipal deal origination and pricing
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, operate under pressure, and effectively manage priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships
  • Collaboration across teams internally, ensuring seamless resolution of trading settlements and discrepancies
  • Ability to continuously learn and willingness to be trained
  • Prior knowledge of market and trading systems is preferred
  • Some travel will be required over time


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred


Licenses & Credentials

  • Minimum required: FINRA SIE, Series 7 or 52 and Series 63 or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
