Telematics Manager

Sunstate Equipment Company is hiring a skilled Telematics Manager responsible for leading Sunstate's telematics strategy and operations across its multi-billion-dollar rental fleet. This role drives digital transformation, system reliability, and data integrity while collaborating with internal teams, OEMs, and vendors. Success is measured by strategic execution, team engagement, and measurable business impact.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years in fleet/supply chain management, telematics, or technical project management.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and logistics skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools (Excel, Tableau, Access) and data modeling platforms.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT, EPA, J-SOX).
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Develops and implements short and long-term strategies for telematics integration, expansion, and optimization.
  • Leads strategic initiatives that enhance fleet efficiency, asset utilization, and digital transformation.
  • Supports new product offerings and growth plans for telematics services.

Technical Expertise & Innovation

  • Maintains advanced knowledge of telematics technologies, APIs, data feeds, and software platforms.
  • Researches emerging technologies and coordinate pilots or demos with vendors.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert to identify and implement suitable technical solutions.
  • Supports firmware updates, maintenance releases, and system resilience through root cause analysis.

Operational Management

  • Oversees installation, activation, and maintenance of telematics devices across the fleet.
  • Monitors device functionality, escalates issues, and ensures timely resolution.
  • Conducts metadata audits, validates device activations, and manages vendor invoicing.
  • Collaborates with branches and law enforcement to track and recover stolen assets.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyzes telematics data to identify trends, performance metrics, and improvement opportunities.
  • Creates and reviews system requirements and specifications for telematics platforms.
  • Maintains digital solutions in alignment with SLAs and KPIs.
  • Provides reporting on theft recoveries, geofencing alerts, and device performance.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Serves as the primary liaison for all internal departments, external customers, OEMs, and vendors.
  • Facilitates cross-functional collaboration to align goals and improve services.
  • Communicates technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Represents Sunstate professionally in all interactions.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Leads and mentors the telematics team, fostering a culture of engagement and accountability.
  • Participates in departmental meetings to improve services, goals, and procedures.
  • Promotes teamwork and collaboration across service, IT, engineering, and analytics functions.
