Tetra Tech International Development Europe is Tetra Tech's European business unit focused on International Development. We are based in London with offices in Kenya, Nigeria, Poland, and the Netherlands. Location: London, Near Kings Cross Station / Coal Drops Yard 

Flexible working available: We operate a hybrid working policy, with people working from the office two days a week and the rest working from home. People may choose to come in more often.

Contract Type: Initially a 6- month fixed-term contract with the ambition to make permanent. 

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.50 hours per week, flexible hybrid working office & home with some overseas project travel. Travel to Nigeria is expected.

Job Overview

Tetra Tech International Development is now offering a fantastic opportunity for someone with a minimum of two years' experience in similar positions/sectors to join its Governance, Security and Justice Team as an Assistant Manager. The role requires working on a large peace-building programme in Nigeria, managing a set of smaller projects and contributing to the work of the larger programme delivery team. You will also be expected to support business development activities and competitive bidding.

Main Duties:

  • Managing small projects/workstreams, or contributing to the management of larger projects, and successful delivery of projects overseas, with responsibility for ensuring programme and milestone delivery; financial forecasting and budget management; contractor engagement and technical and financial reporting in line with contract requirements.

  • Contributing to business development opportunities, including the successful development of both pursuits and full tenders as part of pursuit/bid teams.

  • Undertaking technical advisory work on a short-term basis to support project implementation as needed.

  • Developing and maintaining strong networks and relationships with clients, partners, and consultants, and assisting in the development of other team members.

Aptitude and skills:

  • Previous demonstrable experience in managing, or supporting the management of, international development projects in similar positions/ technical areas (such as governance, public financial management, economic reform, conflict mitigation and stabilisation or security and justice sector development), preferably with an international development consultancy, in government or with an international NGO, is essential.

  • Excellent communication skills in English (both oral and written) and be comfortable working in a multinational, multicultural environment. Knowledge of other languages, particularly French or Arabic, would be an asset. 

  • Highly numerate with experience in forecasting, budget and financial management, and proficient in Excel.

  • Analytical and have the ability to think logically and problem solve individually or as part of a team.

  • Well organised and have a high level of attention to detail.

  • Tenacious and resilient, and able to cope well with change and uncertainty.

  • A ‘team-player' able to build strong team relationships at all levels. You will also be proactive, self-motivated, demonstrate a high level of initiative and be able to thrive in a fast-moving programme and team environment.

  • Entrepreneurial and motivated to identify new opportunities for GSJ.

  • A willingness to travel to other permanent offices of the business and project locations, including fragile and conflict-affected states, as required.

Qualifications:

Degree level educated, preferably with a Master's in a relevant subject (e.g. international development, international relations, economics, politics, history, war studies, conflict/security or equivalent).
