The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a motivated Biologist/Environmental Monitoring Specialist based in Appleton, WI, with a strong background in environmental permitting and fieldwork to support a variety of energy and infrastructure projects.

 

The ideal candidate will be comfortable conducting fieldwork in diverse environments, working closely with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to impactful environmental solutions.

Your Role:

  • Conduct fieldwork including environmental monitoring, wildlife assessments, wetland delineations, GPS data collection, soil and water sampling, geohazard assessments, and site remediation.
  • Perform outdoor work in diverse conditions: renewable construction sites, hazardous waste sites, wetlands, highways, and contaminated areas.
  • Participate in construction site monitoring and compliance.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and construction teams in field and office settings.
  • Complete office-based work such as data evaluation, technical memo/report writing, and equipment management.
  • Travel approximately 50% of the time during the first three years, with reduced travel thereafter (includes multi-day assignments across the U.S., outside of Wisconsin).
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field (required).
  • 1–3 years of professional experience supporting environmental permitting, field surveys, or impact assessments.
  • GIS experience (required).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

 

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in renewable energy, transmission line, or utility-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations (NEPA, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act).
  • Experience contributing to or preparing EAs, EISs, and BAs.
  • Understanding of BMPs (Best Management Practices) and mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency in GIS for mapping and spatial analysis.
  • Ability to apply environmental data for permitting and compliance.
  • Construction site and equipment experience (e.g., trailers, boats, small engine repair) is a plus.
  • Experience conducting biological field surveys, habitat assessments, and threatened/endangered species work.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams.

 

Additional Notes:

  • This is a full-time role based in Appleton, Wisconsin, with the potential for overtime.
  • Physical outdoor labor is a significant component of this position.
  • Travel flexibility is essential.

 

Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive within the renewable energy industry.
