Role & Responsibilities:
Tetra Tech Inc. is seeking highly motivated Interns for employment in our Chantilly, VA office.
Interns will have the opportunity to working with Tetra Tech project managers and/or senior-level team members to learn new skills and assist in administrative and scientific tasks that will support meaningful and substantive work products.
Please note that chosen candidates must be able to report to the Chantilly, VA office Monday through Friday. We are not able to provide relocation assistance for this position.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with field data collection, including surface water sampling.
- Collecting and entering data for evaluation by senior project staff.
- Assisting with report production and file management.
- Interpreting and recording data, conducting analyses, comparing findings to relevant studies to local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Conducting research for ongoing projects, including reviewing of regulations and permits, work plans, and other documents.
- Updating websites using Content Management Systems (CMS).
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this role would possess the following attributes or traits:
- Knowledge of data collection and tabulation in preparation of scientific documents.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with experience in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as well as Microsoft Access.
- Knowledge of HTML.
- The ability to format and produce reports. as well as the ability to maintain file management.
- A strong attention to detail.
- Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
- The ability to work as a problem solver, work collaboratively, and be flexible.
- Make educated and thoughtful decisions.
- Have a strong drive to succeed and professional approach to work.
- Effective time management.
- Self-motivated and able to take directions.
- A strong health and safety ethic.
- This position requires driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
Additional qualifications that are preferred, but not required, include:
- Experience with GIS and databases, and;
- Fluency in languages other than English.
Education and Certifications:
Candidates should be currently in pursuit of, or have recently obtained, a BS/BA or MS in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, geology, environmental engineering, chemistry, or another scientific field). Specifically:
- Candidates must have successfully completed at least two years of study towards a degree (this would include Juniors, Seniors, and recent undergraduate students) prior to the start of the internship.
- Candidates must have completed at least six courses in a relevant scientific discipline described above prior to the start of the internship.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.1 or higher.
Physical Demands:
- Candidate must be able to walk large project sites and physically able to carry up to 35 pounds of equipment (such as sampling tools, GPS unit, field screening equipment and cameras) during field work.
- Field activities take place in a variety of weather conditions, outside of regular work hours, and can occur in remote locations which include areas of uneven terrain.
- Field sampling and monitoring may include various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil gas, and air).
- Candidate must be able to work at a computer in an office environment for office-based tasks.
