Coanda Research & Development Corporation is a growing research and development company specializing in solving the most difficult industrial problems. Our expertise is the application of fundamental scientific principles to address complicated physical phenomena. A challenging opportunity exists in our Burnaby, BC facility for a Junior Research Scientist with a strong background in fluid mechanics and computational methods (CFD). The successful candidate will engage in advanced research and development projects over a wide range of industrial sectors and technologies. The key responsibilities will include:

·         Application of CFD models to analyze industrial systems

·         Selection of suitable mathematical models and computational approaches and their implementation within a commercial software environment to simulate complex flows

·         Supplementation of commercial code with custom sub-routines if required features are not available

·         Development of computational grids for complex 3D geometries

·         Post-processing and analysis of simulation results to address research objectives

·         Assessment and improvement of quality and accuracy of the numerical solution

·         Preparation of reports for clients and internal stakeholders

·         Proposal development and project planning

·         Building and management of client relationships

 

Required skills and experience:

·         Experience in developing and applying CFD models for complex fluid dynamics problems

·         Very strong fundamental knowledge and understanding of fluid mechanics, the principles of heat and mass transport, thermodynamics, and numerical methods

·         Deep understanding and practical experience with various approaches to simulate multi-phase flow

·         Familiarity with CFD software packages (ANSYS Fluent preferred) and mesh generation software (GAMBIT, ANSYS Meshing, ANSYS SpaceClaim, ANSYS ICEM)

·         Ability to work to deadlines, in a fast-paced and resource-constrained environment

·         Comfortable with both working independently and as part of a team

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills

·         Ability to stay current with the latest developments in the field

·         Impressive academic record supported by peer-reviewed publications

 

Skills and experience in one or more of the areas below is an asset:

·         CFD code development

·         Atmospheric dispersion

·         Experimental fluid dynamics

·         Mathematical modelling and statistics

·         Process simulation

·         Management of research projects

 

Qualification requirements:

·         PhD in Engineering or related discipline with a focus on Fluid Mechanics (MSc with a strong record and post-graduate industrial experience will be considered)

·         Eligibility to work in Canada

·         Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in BC or ability to obtain it
