The Opportunity:
Our Jacksonville office is seeking an engineering professional to provide project level technical support on environmental characterization and remediation projects for federal, municipal, commercial and industrial clients. This individual will participate in and lead scoping, planning and execution of large, complex environmental investigation and remediation programs under CERCLA, RCRA and other regulatory programs for Federal, State, and private clients. This position requires the employee to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include a variety of project related tasks to design and implement complex field investigation and remediation projects under various environmental regulatory programs. These project efforts will include assessment design, interpretation of data, designing integrated active and institutional remediation programs, and preparation of large complex documents.

The current position has the opportunity to work closely with one or more of our PhD level engineers designing and testing new environmental remediation treatment systems. Based on your current level of experience, you may be asked to take on task-level or project management responsibilities, along with business development, and staff management and mentoring tasks
• Support project managers in evaluation of emerging and innovative technologies via research, design and testing of emergent technologies.
• Evaluate contaminated sites and develop remediation approaches, including feasibility studies, removal action work plans, and remediation design plans.
• Implement remedial pilot tests and systems, including vendor selection, logistical coordination, permitting, and supervision of field teams.
• Management of subcontractors.
• Work plan development, data evaluation, and report writing.
• Develop technical specifications, scopes and cost estimates to support procurement of subcontractors including environmental remediation contractors, drillers, analytical laboratories, etc., and assist evaluation of bids and pricing.
• Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals.
• Data analysis, including preparing maps, tables, and figures (using GIS ad CADD staff).
• Prepare for and participate in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties.
• Task and project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, design and implementation, trouble shooting and optimization of remediation engineering projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability.
• Business development; potentially including new and existing clients, leading proposal preparation.
• At times, this position may also include fieldwork including multi-media environmental sampling, sediment sampling and characterization, drilling oversight, contractor oversight, and remediation system operations, maintenance, and construction.

Qualifications & Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
• Mandatory Requirements;
o Bachelor's degree (BS) or master's degree (MS/MA) in environmental engineering or related field.
o Minimum of 8 years directly related professional experience in environmental projects.
o Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam completed.
o OSHA 40-Hr Hazardous Waste Operations Training and all refreshers to maintain it as current.
o Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft programs like Word, Excel).
o A valid Driver's License in good standing.
o Capable of performing fieldwork, which at times can be extensive.
• Desired experience, knowledge, and skills
o Professional engineer licensure or a path to achieve licensure within 3 years.
o Experience working on Department of Defense projects.
o Experience working with specifications software (e.g., SpecsIntact, CSI, etc.) and previous experience developing design drawings with the support of CADD designers.
o Knowledge of specialized computer software needed for data evaluation and remediation design.
o Experience with equipment (i.e., pumps, flowmeters, sensors, etc.) selection and sizing.
o Experience with system developing Process Instrumentation Diagrams and remediation system startup plans.
o Strong oral and written communication skills.
o Ability to operate 4WD equipment and trailer attachments.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or related field, and successful completion of the FE Exam is required. Five to ten years of environmental assessment and remediation experience is desired. Specific experience with innovative technology evaluation and implementation is a plus. Prior experience preparing specifications for subcontractor procurement or to support our clients with the contractor bidding process, preparation of planning methodology and documents for the testing and evaluation of remediation technologies is also preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities: (if applicable)
The selected candidate's role will have project management responsibilities and supervisory role over technical teams to complete planning documents, field events or reports. With tenure, personnel management roles are available.

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and perform field investigation and remediation activities that could potentially require the following: performing strenuous fieldwork under a variety of site and weather conditions; standing, crouching and sitting to facilitate collecting site information; negotiating difficult terrain for extended periods of time performing field surveys, lifting and/or carrying field equipment and other items weighing up to 40 pounds; and potential exposure to natural hazards (e.g., poison ivy). Must be able to perform and maintain rigorous detailed documentation of field activities. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee will be required to travel via air or land. The employee may be required to conduct site visits and field activities at places and times where exposure to outdoor weather conditions is part of the working environment. The employee may also be required to work in environments where toxic fumes or chemicals are present. Overnight travel may be required in Florida and the southeast United States typically for periods of up to 5 days. Travel for longer periods and other US or international locations are also possible.
Language & Communication Skills:
The ability to read, interpret, and understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form is required. A mastery of the English language appropriate for both interpretation of written and oral instructions from numerous sources and for explanation of findings is required. The ability to prepare and write detailed site assessments notes and technical reports.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Additionally, advanced mathematics skills as required for design development is required.
Other Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft office software, Adobe and other desktop software packages as required to prepare the requirement documents associated with this technical discipline.
