As Security Controller, you will be responsible for security across our secure facility and projects. Reporting to senior leadership, you will embed and operate our Facility Security Management System, act as the central security adviser for project teams, and champion a pragmatic, evidence-based security culture across the business. Your work will protect personnel, information and assets while ensuring compliant, auditable delivery of security services to government and commercial stakeholders.

You will join an organisation where security is integral to our success. In this role you will influence security outcomes across projects, shape best practice, and work alongside committed professionals who value operational excellence and compliance. If you are a pragmatic security professional who enjoys embedding systems and enabling teams to operate securely, we would like to hear from you.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for the physical security, access control and integrity of the secure facility, ensuring all controls meet regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Design, implement and maintain the Facility Security Management System (FSMS) and associated procedures to reflect evolving government and defence security standards.
  • Act as the principal advisor to project teams on handling, storage, transfer and destruction of protectively marked materials and government-owned assets.
  • Conduct regular security assurance activities (audits, inspections and risk reviews), identify non-conformances and drive robust corrective actions to closure.
  • Support the personnel security vetting team, including vetting coordination with Project Managers.
  • Develop and deliver targeted security training, briefings and guidance to raise awareness and ensure consistent practice across operational teams.
  • Monitor changes to government, MOD and industry security policy and translate those changes into actionable requirements and communicated updates for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Represent operational security matters at the Security Committee; provide clear, concise reporting to senior leaders to inform decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Provide day-to-day security incident management and investigation support, including root cause analysis and lessons-learned dissemination.

Experience, Skills & Behaviours

  • Demonstrable experience in security management within defence, MOD, government or regulated contracting environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of government security frameworks, physical security, protected material handling and related legislation.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining security management systems, policies and audit programmes.
  • Strong communicator able to translate technical security requirements into practical, business-focused guidance for non-security focussed audiences.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, with a disciplined approach to risk identification, mitigation and documentation.
  • Confident in stakeholder engagement across all levels; able to influence senior leadership and sustain collaborative working relationships with project teams.
  • Experience conducting security audits and driving corrective actions to deliver measurable improvements.
  • Leadership mindset: proactive, solution-focused and comfortable taking ownership in mission-critical environments.

Qualifications & Desirable Attributes

  • Relevant security-related qualifications or certification (e.g., DISA Security Controller, ISO27001, CISM, CISA or equivalent) are desirable.
  • Previous experience working within MOD-accredited programmes
  • You must be eligible to obtain Security Clearance
  • You must be willing to work from our Leeds office on a regular basis
