The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is looking for a full-time Senior Environmental Engineer/Project Manager based in Chicago, IL, with strong technical background in environmental remediation from early planning, feasibility studies, remedial design, and remedial action support services.  The selected candidate will manage and support various public and private sector environmental remediation projects.

  • Manage, perform, or support remedial design for environmental remediation projects in upland and sediment settings.

  • Develop, manage and conduct geotechnical and environmental pre-design investigations and treatability studies.

  • Develop, manage and conduct construction quality control/assurance programs for remedial action implementation projects.

  • Develop conceptual site models, conceptual planning, remediation options assessment, feasibility studies, and engineering cost estimates for various complex multi-media remediation and habitat restoration projects. 

  • Work with and manage multi-disciplinary technical teams for successful completion of projects.

  • Manage client relationships, expectations, and development of repeat and new business.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or civil engineering.

  • Minimum of 8 years relevant experience.

  • Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain one within one year.

  • Previous experience with environmental site investigations and remediation (including under CERCLA, the Illinois Site Remediation Program, or the Great Lakes Legacy Act). 

     

  • Strong analytical, organizational, client management, and communication skills (both written and verbal). 

  • Strong technical writing skills.

  • Work well in a team environment.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Previous experience with remedial action construction quality control/assurance programs.

  • Previous experience with designing, implementing, and managing environmental and geotechnical pre-design investigations.

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training certification with current 8-hour refresher.

  • Must be able to drive on a regular basis.  Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required. 

 


 Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in environmental or civil engineering. 

  • Previous private or public sector client management experience a plus.

 

 

 Physical Requirements

  • Work at a computer screen for extended periods.

  • Walk around project sites in all types of terrains.

  • Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 35lbs.

  • Complete annual medical monitoring program.

 

 

Work Environment

  • This position will mostly consist of office work, with limited outdoor field work (including project site visits) that could include overnight travel. 

     

  • Work could occur anywhere in U.S. and occur in peak summer and winter conditions.

     

 

 

Additional Information

  • This full-time position requires roughly 20% travel.  

  • Must be able to drive on a regular basis.  Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required. 

  • This position offers the flexibility to work in our Chicago office or one of our offices in the Midwest, or in a hybrid of in-office and remote.

The Salary Range for this position is $120,000 - $150,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
