Description

Congress provided USACE with $17B in supplemental funding through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This combined with a trend of record USACE annual funding appropriations and Emergency Supplemental Disaster Recovery Appropriations for USACE in 3 of the past 5 years totaling over $7B have the nation's waterways set up for a ten-year program of design and construction.

As an industry leader in water related design services for many local, state and federal clients, including USACE, BOR, and NRCS, Tetra Tech has recently placed over 1B dollars in contract capacity to serve our clients.  We have recently been selected to lead the design of multiple ongoing top priority USACE projects, including rehabilitation of inland navigation lock and dam systems, design of new navigation locks, and coastal protection projects.  These projects represent a once in a generation investment in our nation's waterways.

As a Senior Structural Engineer in the Midwest Design Center, you will work closely with national industry leaders and local experts to support clients with structural design support. You will provide expertise for marine facilities, concrete and steel bridges, flood walls, pump stations, navigation locks, dam structures, and waterfront structures. New Lock Final Design: Tetra Tech will be designing a new 1200' lock to be part of the U.S. Inland Waterway Navigation System. Work will include designing lock walls, guide walls and gates. At a second new 1200' lock project, Tetra Tech will be developing design criteria, developing construction methodologies, and designing upstream and downstream guide walls.

Dam and Reservoir Design: Tetra Tech is performing the 30% design for a new reservoir and four new dams in Colorado. The structural design will include preliminary design for two concrete dams, spillways, stilling basins, outlet works, and inlet works.

Spillway Design: Our team will be designing a new spillway capable of passing both floods and downstream fish passage.

  • Design and analyze structures to meet project specific and code requirements utilizing both hand and finite element analysis. Experience with seismic analysis is desirable.
  • Develop engineering design calculation packages for structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete and structural steel.
  • Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • This includes solving problems using combinations of standards and modified standard procedures or methods developed in prior assignments.
  • Prepare contract documents, including plans and specifications.

  • Provide direction and oversight to junior staff working as part of your team on projects.
  • Mentor staff to support development of their structural expertise.
  • Consult with suppliers or contractors to interpret specifications or other contract criteria.
  • Assist with project planning, cost estimating, proposals, project management, and marketing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's Degree desired).
  • 10+ years of relevant structural engineering experience.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) certification (Required); SE required.

  • Demonstrated educational and relevant work experience showing strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong communication skills and willing to work both independently and in a team environment, both in person and virtual.

What We Can Offer You:

  • A passionate team of co-workers who work hard and respect the importance of work-life balance – really!
  • The opportunity to think outside the box to develop innovative solutions to client problems, and the support to implement your ideas.
  • This office is being established in the Greater Pittsburgh area to support long-term work we have been performing out of offices in other parts of the country. This is an opportunity to get involved in the ground floor of building up this practice locally.
