We are seeking a parttime Water Quality Field Technician who will be based in either our San Luis Obispo or Santa Maria office, with the ability to also work remotely. This position supports surface and groundwater projects, with a focus on industrial, construction, and municipal stormwater, for a variety of clients to improve human health and the environment. Tasks performed in this role will be field work (i.e., site visits and collecting samples) and desk work (i.e., completing forms and preparing reports and figures/maps).

Responsibilities: 
•    Clearly and effectively communicate with coworkers, clients, and project stakeholders
•    Use and properly maintain field equipment and vehicles 
•    Assist with laboratory coordination
•    Complete accurate forms and reports
•    Follow directions and coordinate and communicate with Project Managers and the Team 
•    Assist with inspections and site analysis, field sampling and data collection, and training; and
•    Resolve questions, plan, coordinate, and execute work in a safe, timely, cost-effective, and compliant manner.

Essential Qualifications:

•    Other Highly Desirable Knowledge and Experience (please highlight any of the following skill sets in your resume):
o    Experience with developing and implementing SWPPPs and BMP recommendations in California
o    Experience with stormwater and surface water sample collection; stream flow measurements; physical habitat assessments
o    Professional stormwater licensure (e.g., QSD/QSP, QISP, CPESC, CPSWQ)
o    Statistical analysis
o    Ability to use GIS software
o    Ability to ability to travel out of the area 

Essential Education and Experience:
•    B.A. or B.S. degree in an applicable scientific field, such as Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Natural Resources, Watershed Management, Soil Science, Geology, Ecology, or similar
•    Minimum of 1 year of experience in environmental consulting in the private or public sector

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

he salary range for this position is $20 to $30 per hour. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business. 

Physical Demands: 
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The position typically performs possibly 1/2 of work in an office environment and 1/2 in the field with travel required.  Field work and preparation requires lifting over 25 pounds of equipment, traversing uneven terrain during site visits, and driving to locations three hours or more away from San Luis Obispo. 

Work Environment: 
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. An estimated half to 3/4 of work is principally performed in the field, with the remainder of work in an office environment, which would likely be a hybrid of at home and in the Tetra Tech offices.  Travel for meetings and site visits are required. Site visits may be to industrial facilities, construction sites, offices, open land/rough terrain, and to water bodies.

Required Language & Communication Skills: 
•    Must be fluent in the English language, writing and speaking.
•    Tasks may entail verbal presentations/trainings. 

Required Mathematical Skills:
•    Aa strong foundation in mathematics is necessary to effectively analyze data, model complex environmental systems, and make informed decisions about environmental issues. This includes basic arithmetic, algebra, and principles of environmental statistics.

Required Other Skills:  
•    Fluency with computer software, including knowledge of primary Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, TEAMS, and Outlook).
•    Fluency with Apple software (iPhone, iPad).
