The Director of Nursing for Practice Management has the responsibility, authority and accountability for the clinical, operational and personnel management of primary care practices and Urgent Care Centers for UR Thompson Health.

Main Function

  • Responsibility, authority and accountability for the clinical, operational and personnel management of primary care practice and nursing care.
  • Accountable for nursing operations, staff and nurse leader oversight, development, and related clinical quality management for all F.F. Thompson Hospital primary, Health Works and Urgent Care Centers (HWUC). 
  • Leads the unit in a goal-directed manner, which is congruent with the nursing service, hospital and system goals and philosophies.
  • Accountable for the coordination and integration of clinical and administrative functions of their designated areas.
  • Assures regulatory and legal compliance and provides leadership, vision and direction for their department.
  • Expectations of excellent customer service and clinical quality are articulated and formulated into operational plans and monitoring of outcomes.
  • Responsible for fostering interdisciplinary, collaborative relationships within the department and institution as a whole. 
  • Provides onsite leadership, training and evaluation ensuring nurses and nurse leaders at all sites meet required competencies and regulations.   
  • Assists in the administrative efficiencies throughout the practices, and works closely with the Director of Practice Management and providers while exercising frequent independent judgment in monitoring the day-to-day operation of the practices. 
  • Integral part of the Family Practices pursuit and maintenance of Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home certification and other national quality programs and goals.

  • Highly organized individual able to quickly reprioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Experienced in training and evaluating staff
  • Experienced in clinical quality management and clinical process improvement
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Works collaboratively with Director of Practice Management to develop and sustain a PCMH and Magnet culture across the organization
  • Demonstrates the CARES values at all times.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school or college of nursing.
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse license required
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required. Willingness to complete additional professional certifications in nursing, health care or business is required.
  • Masters in nursing or related field preferred.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to form collaborative partnerships across all service settings.
  • Working knowledge of the provision of health care in a variety of settings.
  • Proficient in the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR); ability to create reports on own
  • Competent in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Self-directed, self-starter
  • Accepts responsibility and follows through on projects and activities.
  • Ability to assimilate new information and technologies into daily work.

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school or college of nursing.

Experience

  • At least three years of management/leadership experience required
  • Evidence of career advancement and progressive increase in responsibilities is essential
  • 5+ years of clinical nursing experience required
  • At least one year supervising clinical nurse leaders
  • Office based, multi-disciplinary experience preferred
  • Electronic Medical Record experience required
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to train and evaluate staff
  • Able to juggle multiple priorities

Complexity of Duties

  • Position involves conceptual analysis and the resolution of complex problems and situations. Most responsibilities are stated in terms of objectives to be reached, instead of the specific means by which results are to be achieved. Situations will be encountered that involve the need to determine the problem itself before solutions are proposed.
  • Able to work collaboratively with all members of the health care team and manage a stressful environment with composure and professionalism.
  • Demonstrates and applies judgment and management of fiscal requirements of his/her area and its impact on the system
  • Written and verbal communication skills are essential to job performance, including providing both technical factual information and the objective and subjective analyses of the information.
  • May be required to perform the duties of other employees in their absence.

Position Pay Range: $115,000-135,000/year

Starting Pay: Based on experience
