Schedule: Full time 7:30am-3:30PM Monday through Friday and one weekend a month
Pay range: $35.70-46.20, based on experience

Main Function:
The Lead Tech assists the Section Chiefs/POC with duties that relate to maintaining a functional and compliant lab section. He/She is responsible for understanding and helping the Section Chiefs/POC assure that all state and federal regulations are met. In addition, the individual is responsible for assisting with Quality Assurance of the sections to ensure optimal lab services are provided. The Lead Tech is a resource for other technologists and assists with training of technical staff in the operations of the section. The Lead Tech will assist with the operation of the laboratory. The individual will work as a generalist on the bench when assigned.

- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills for the operation of instrumentation in section. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to ensure the quality of the processes of testing specimens in section

Complexity of Duties: diversified duties involving progressive judgement regarding
- Evaluation of Quality Control for adherence to QC rules and regulation
- Maintenance of the validation for testing processes
- Initiation of alternative testing when in house testing not available
- Responsibility for extensive troubleshooting of instruments/problems within section
- Acts as resource for laboratory staff regarding processes and operations in the testing section
- Researches current market methodology
- Assists with regulatory activities including but not limited to validations, calibrations, side by sides, linearities, competency assessments, proficiency testing as able
- Assists with audits and tracers
Supervisory Responsibility/Supervision Received:
- Works under general supervision of Technical Operations Manager and Section Chief
- Assists in orientation and training of new associates
- Assists in training lab associates in new instruments and methodologies
- Assists in training lab associates in revisions of current processes
- Acts as a back up to the Section Chief, triaging noted issues to the SC that require supervisory oversight per regulatory requirements
Key Responsibilities (Job Specific):
1) Pre-analytical specimen procedures 5%
Obtains specimens from patients, following established lab processes
Receives specimens into LIS and/or places test orders into LIS
2) Analytical processes/Quality and Quantity of work 85%
- Performs required maintenance on analyzers
- Operates analyzers: monitoring for proper operation: interprets flags/alarms
- Troubleshoots/solves basic instrument/methodology problems
- Utilizes QC materials and interprets results
- Evaluates reagent quality
- Evaluates patients results, correlating with patient information
- Processes specimen tests in acceptable time: STAT/ASAPs testing prioritized within workload
- Remains competent in all testing processes
- Assists Section Chief with initial and periodic validation of instruments, methods and LIS interfaces
- Assists Section Chief with insuring compliance with mandatory proficiency testing: Introducing into daily workflow, submitting within required time frame and reviewing indicators of improvement or corrective action
- Assists Section Chief with review of inventory, QC, maintenance logs, parallel testing, writing and reviewing procedures, section QA monitors, competency assessments, audits/tracers and other duties as assigned by Section Chief or Lab Management with additional supervisory review performed per regulatory requirements
3) Post Analytical Processes 10%
- Follows established reporting processes, using LIS to verify, report and document tests results and comments
- Participates in inventory control
Qualifications:
- BS in Medical Technology required
- NYS Certified Clinical Laboratory Technician required
- MLT required
- Broad based section experience
- Background/understanding of the LIS functions, project management, and demonstrates initiative and progressive learning.
Pay Range: $35.70-46.20
Starting Pay: Based on experience.
