Summary: Travis Credit Union's (TCU) Business Intelligence Analyst (BI Analyst) conducts business data analysis and analytical studies to provide results/recommendations to senior management for department, enterprise-wide strategic initiatives, and other Credit Union priorities.    This position is responsible for developing reports, dashboards, and analytic tools to provide actionable business intelligence in consultation with management and business units for use in daily and strategic decision making. The BI Analyst works as an individual contributor and as part of a team including cross-functionally with business unit analysts, engineers, developers, and all levels of management. A successful BI Analyst possesses strong business acumen, critical thinking, problem solving, and technical/programming capabilities with a relentless focus on delivering value and execution.    Profile:

  • Builds and maintains analytic solutions (applications, tools, dashboards) from start to finish based on the intended outcome to drive informed decision-making and performance management.
  • Develops and uses models and analytical techniques to identify areas where TCU could gain efficiencies, enhance profitability, promote emerging opportunities, or call out key trends. 
  • Leverages technical and programming capabilities to query data from disparate data sources. 
  • Translates and communicates results, analyses, and findings as actionable insights and recommendations, rather than just reporting data and metrics, so management can make timely and informed decisions.
  • Performs qualitative, quantitative, and root-cause analysis, including but not limited to forecasting, segmentation, business models, operational functions, workflow, processes, and other business related issues to analyze, determine and promote optimization and data-driven decisions.
  • Collaborates with business units and all levels of management to conduct needs assessment in support of organizational strategies, objectives, and tactics to develop and maintain performance metrics, measurements, and targets.
  • Develops an understanding of underlying credit union data sources and their relationships to create appropriate analytical approaches, determine solutions, and support business intelligence development and database design.
  • Identifies and assesses business strategies, opportunities, and areas of improvement.
  • Ensures information on key metrics is accurate, complete, and reliable to support relationship management and optimize organizational performance.
  • Trains and supports end users on reporting sources to access reports, dashboards and other analysis information. 
  • Performs advanced analytics (predictive/prescriptive) to solve complex business problems and provide recommendations to business unit leaders.
  • Reviews and optimizes business processes that leverage data from different sources in collaboration with business unit SMEs.
  • Partners closely with Product Owner(s), Data Architect(s), and Data Engineer(s) to develop and advance the analytic environment, and implement analytics solutions.
  • Subject matter expertise in relevant data sources, data visualization tools (i.e. Tableau) and core banking system.
  • Provides guidance, mentoring, and training to new and less experienced analysts to assist with growth of technical skills, business knowledge, and automation of legacy reporting as well as new reporting requests. 
  • Creates, performs, drives, and enhances the business intelligence processes to effectively leverage data as a strategic asset and identify/measure key performance indicators.
  • Key influencer and champion for the use and management of information and analytics to drive and measure company performance and actionable insights for use in daily and strategic decision-making.                     
Skills: 
  • Experience designing and delivering clear and concise data visualizations utilizing different business intelligence and visualization tools (Tableau strongly preferred).
  • Ability to communicate highly complex technical concepts and provide guidance and training to non-technical, senior management, and all levels of staff.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills with experience in problem resolution including determining root cause, scope and scale of issues.
  • Experience making complex data accessible through dynamic visualizations for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience with SQL to utilize databases, warehouses, and large data sets for analysis, interpretation, and synthesizing. 
  • Strong analytical, consulting, facilitation, business acumen, collaboration, problem solving, and work management skills.
  • Present findings, conclusions, alternatives, recommended solutions, and information clearly and concisely.
  • Experience with programming languages (i.e. Python) and applying techniques used in analyzing and reporting information.
  • Experience using data to illustrate business performance with the ability to develop materials for all levels of the company, from operational to C-level audiences. 
  • Experience with data management tools (e.g., integrations – structured and non-structured data/excel, external, APIs) and understand relational database structures, multi-dimensional databases, data warehouse design, and BI architecture.
  • Keen eye for details and aptitude for working with data; highly accurate and thorough in all tasks.
  • Excellent business acumen, with the ability to anticipate and understand business requirements to ensure that analyses properly answers meaningful questions.
  • Sustain a comprehensive knowledge of analytics tools (such as Tableau, SQL, statistical languages/packages, or other tools to easily analyze and visualize data) and apply knowledge to help build dynamic, automated, and easy to consume reporting for key stakeholders. 
  • Experience with forecasting, statistical analysis, mathematical techniques, modeling (e.g. regressions, decision trees, clustering), cost benefit scenarios, and segmentation.
  • Extensive experience that demonstrates the ability to research, compile, and document data, business processes, and workflow
  • Extensive experience in market/consumer research, project management, and analysis in support of strategic planning initiatives
  • Extensive experience in demonstrating thought-leadership, initiative-taking, decision-making and creativity solving business problems
  • Advanced analytical/quantitative, reconciliation and deductive reasoning skills. 
  • Excellent analytical capabilities and understanding of financial concepts and products. 
  • Excellent negotiation and persuasion skills with the ability to motivate and influence others. 
 Reporting and Experience  
  • Business Intelligence Analyst
    • Reports directly to assigned department management.
    • Normally receives general instructions on routine work, and detailed instructions on new assignments.
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Marketing, Analytics, Computer science, Statistics, or related field with a minimum of 2 years of professional work experience; or 6 years of professional work experience.
    • Minimum of 2 years' professional experience in Business Intelligence or Data Analytics; or Business Analytics or Data Analytics Certification from Accredited School/Program with minimum 1 years of relative work experience in similar role.
    • Minimum 2 years utilizing analytic tools to create dynamic visualizations, key performance indicators, and solutions to inform business decisions and strategy.
    • Data Visualization certification (i.e. Tableau Certification), or SQL Certification desired. 
  • Senior Business Intelligence Analyst  
    • Reports directly to assigned department management.
    • Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, and general instructions on new assignments.
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Marketing, Analytics, Computer science, Statistics, or related field with a minimum of 4 years of professional work experience; a related Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years professional experience; or 8 years of professional work experience.
    • Minimum of 4 years' professional experience in Business Intelligence or Data Analytics; or Business Analytics or Data Analytics Certification from Accredited School/Program with minimum 3 years of related work experience in similar role.
    • Minimum 3 years utilizing analytic tools to create dynamic visualizations, key performance indicators, and solutions to inform business decisions and strategy.
    • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Data Visualization certification (i.e. Tableau Certification), or SQL Certification desired.
Starting salary is commensurate with experience. In addition to our competitive benefits, this opportunity with Travis Credit Union has a range of:
  • Business Intelligence Analyst - Grade 15:  $37.65 - $46.50/hour
  • Sr. Business Intelligence Analyst - Grade 18: $48.74 - $60.21/hour
