Summary of Job Duties: The Assistant/Associate Staff Scientist position is available for fully funded exciting comprehensive research projects to understand cellular and molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic diseases and develop therapeutic strategies. Researchers in the collaborative environment are engaged in developing and testing drugs to treat cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic diseases. Qualifications:

Assistant Staff Scientist: Doctoral degree and 0 – 5 years of relevant experience. Post-doctoral fellowship experience preferred.

Associate Staff Scientist: Doctoral degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, including progressive staff and project management experience.  Post-doctoral fellowship and experience assisting in grant writing are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Willingness to adjust hours according to the needs of particular experiments.

  • Ability to use independent judgment. Knowledge of experimental design and scientific approaches and methodologies.

  • Expertise with several techniques: cell culture, animal cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic phenotyping, omics assays, Western blot, flow cytometry, ELISA assays, histology and IHC, spectrophotometry, and RT-PCR.

  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. 

  • Ability to design, organize, and coordinate scientific research projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct cutting-edge research that includes animal phenotyping, 3-D and organoid cell culturing, drug design, and omics techniques.

  • Independently perform studies and supervise laboratory personnel to advance the goals of the sponsored research projects.

  • Perform experiments, analyze data, compile results, and monitor quality control processes to ensure research integrity.

  • Communicate summaries of experimental results, maintain laboratory equipment, and order supplies and reagents for the general use of all laboratory members

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
