Summary of Job Duties: The Director for Patient Care (DPC) has broad leadership responsibilities and administrative authority for two or more academic departments that include business development and strategic growth of operations, personnel management, budget development, collaboration with faculty physicians, and fiscal management, and serves as the primary liaison to centralized campus functions. This role jointly supports clinical, education, and research mission areas as well as, acting as a representative of both the Department and College both within and outside UAMS. This position will have clinical operations and management responsibilities in collaboration with UAMS Health and/or Arkansas Children's and may have responsibilities that overlap one or more service lines.

The Director for Patient Care collaborates with multiple Department Chairs, COM leadership, and other senior leaders to develop provider workforce plans, JFR, and recruitment strategies. The incumbent supports the mission and vision of the institution, jointly sets and ensures the strategic direction, and follows all institutional policies and regulations. The DPC is responsible for departmental staff recruitment, hiring, supervision, training, and performance management. S/he serves as a leader in management support, coordinates between department supports, identifies barriers for the team to complete projects, and acts as the primary contact for implementing new initiatives. Uses judgment and experience to apply advanced knowledge, skills, methods, and practices, conducts analysis and problem-solving to plan and prioritize a varied workload that involves developing solutions to emergent issues, time-sensitive and/or confidential projects, and complex problems.

Serves as the primary liaison to centralized campus functions, fostering Faculty relationships and ensuring all operating activities are maximized through collaboration with senior leadership. The role of the Director of Patient Care is to provide leadership and facilitate horizontal collaboration, and communication and to fully support interdisciplinary and team performance.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, health care administration, finance, accounting or related field of study plus ten (10) years of experience to include a minimum of five (5) years of experience in an academic medical center (may be substituted with additional education) OR a terminal degree or master's degree in business administration, health care administration, finance, accounting, legal or related field of study with eight (8) years of relevant experience including a minimum of five (5) years of experience in an academic medical center.

  • Knowledge of academic medical center operations, planning, finance and administration.  

  • Ability to collaborate with clinical partners to ensure seamless operations between academic and clinical enterprise.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares financial and variance reports, conducts internal audits and financial reviews, and conducts special financial studies as needed.

  • Develops and implements the annual budget, including expense budgeting and revenue projection related to appropriated, discretionary, endowment and gift revenues, and grants and contracts.

  • Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.

  • Provides operational support, including providing administrative oversight for educational programs, supporting faculty in development of research programs, managing daily operational issues, and providing input on policy development.

  • Serves as the chief planning officer for the department and liaison to the College's strategy team, monitors the environment/market, and assists in setting mission, vision, and goals, facilitating implementation of strategic and tactical plans, and monitoring progress.

  • Manages the development, analysis and implementation of the department's faculty compensation plan and oversees payroll, purchasing, travel, and financial transactions.

  • Other duties as assigned.
