Summary of Job Duties: The Registered Specialty Nurse is an experienced Registered Nurse with advanced clinical trauma nursing experience who will be responsible for chart abstraction, evaluation of clinical patient care, and compliance with performance improvement outcome measurements. The Registered Specialty Nurse works under the supervision of the Trauma Program Director.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Registered RN license in the State of Arkansas
- Minimum 3 years of total nursing experience required
- Trauma Nursing Core Course(TNCC/ATCN) Instructor(may be obtained within 2 years of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
- BSN preferred
- 5 years of relevant trauma experience
- Trauma Nurse Specialist preferred
- Trauma-related performance Improvement experience
- Certification specific to the patient population or leadership role in the trauma system
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge and role models clinical decision making, critical thinking, and leadership in trauma patient care
- Identifies Trauma patients who meet the Arkansas Trauma Registry (ATR) patient inclusion criteria
- Participates in concurrent data collection of the trauma service line, to include daily patient care rounds with monitoring of patient progress with concurrent issue identification, validation, and documentation
- Maintains current clinical knowledge of trauma practices
- Identifies internal variances to efficient patient care and optimal patient outcomes. Intervenes with the trauma healthcare team to overcome or eliminate obstacles
- Facilitates communication with the trauma team to coordinate the patient's treatment plan and provides consultation, coaching, and mentoring of staff on complex patient cases. Develops strategies to reduce length of stay and resource consumption
- Identifies all provider and system-related issues in the trauma patient population and reports all quality care issues to the Trauma Program Director
- Monitors staff compliance with Trauma Clinical Practice Management Guidelines and provides feedback to the trauma team for mitigation
- Acts as a patient advocate in communication with the trauma team
- Incorporates trauma research studies and performance Improvement initiatives in clinical practices
- Maintains a collaborative relationship with other departments to facilitate and support quality trauma care
- Provides trauma education to patients, families, healthcare providers, and community organizations that have educational needs related to trauma
- Participates in monthly operational and peer review committees
- May perform other duties as assigned.
