Summary of Job Duties: The Senior Executive Director of Development is an entrepreneurial leader, manager and member of the major gift fundraising team, reporting to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Development. The incumbent provides leadership, coaching and gift strategy development for a team of major gift officers, as well as managing campaign strategy for the next comprehensive philanthropic campaign. The Senior Executive Director develops and implements strategies with his/her direct reports for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting major gifts to support UAMS educational, research and patient care programs. They will serve on the AVC Development Leadership Team devising, testing and implementing processes and strategies for success within the development team. This position will maintain an ongoing portfolio of principal level gifts, including annual goals for supporting their team to exceeding individual metrics and goals. The Senior Executive Director will maintain productive, positive relationships with senior leadership and clinicians across the enterprise.

This employee will also work in-person in the advancement office in Little Rock at least 24 hours a week. This position may work remotely within an appropriate home office setting at other times and the setup of which is the responsibility of the employee.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field plus ten (10) years of fundraising or related experience to include at least three (3) years of demonstrated success in managing a team of fundraisers or related experience.

  • Intermediate computer program (MS Office suite) proficiency and experience with fundraising CRM software.

  • This position can work remotely but is expected to work from campus as needed and reside in the central Arkansas area.

  • Experience in grateful patient fundraising and Campaign Leadership.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop cross-functional partnerships with various constituencies including college deans, faculty, donors.

Responsibilities:

Development

  • Manage campaign strategy for upcoming comprehensive philanthropic campaign by appropriately discerning priority funding needs and opportunities for UAMS programs, institutes and colleges, matching these with donor affinities and capacities using a donor-centered, priority balanced approach.

  • Manage, lead and train a team of major gift officers to ensure attainment and exceeding of annual goals.

  • Foster a professional, positive, ethical, supportive, fast-paced, innovative, motivational and fun culture.

  • Follow best-practice major gift fundraising methodologies to plan, strategize and solicit principal level gifts.

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive strategy for identifying major gift donors and works with Prospect Management Team to assure potential gift prospects are properly researched, assigned and transferred, as appropriate.

  • Works closely with other members of the Institutional Advancement Team to assure processes in place to appropriately acknowledge and recognize donors are donor-centered and meaningful.

  • Work collaboratively with the Donor Relations team to lead the donor strategy of peer-to-peer salons as a form of meaningful engagement and cultivation.

  • Proactively provide support and guidance of patient fundraising best practices to fellow development officers.

  • Seek natural partners' guidance and advice in developing principal donor strategies including affinity, rating, timing, relationships.

  • Serve as a model for success by proactively utilizing self-service prospecting tools, technology and systems to identify prospects toward major gifts.

  • Attain all annual metrics for proposals, face-to-face visits, stewardship engagement of prospects, gifts closed and dollars raised, as assigned.

  • Plan and ensure appropriate communication, engagement and stewardship activities for donors by working closely with Institutional Advancement colleagues, including Alumni & Annual Giving and Donor Relations teams.

  • Self-assess skill gaps and seek professional development opportunities, especially those offered within the associations and groups of which IA invests membership and affiliation.

  • Attend weekend and evening activities as required.

  • Serve as a positive link from UAMS to the community by participating in professional and personal external activities and opportunities.

Travel

  • Travel in the state of Arkansas and across the U.S. to meet with prospective donors, as appropriate.

  • Provide direct reports with support, assistance and coaching to make and secure major gift solicitations during donor visits.

  • Travel with key UAMS leaders to facilitate meetings with constituents resulting in major gift solicitations.

  • Attend conferences and other opportunities, as appropriate.

Other

  • Knowledge of and compliance with Institutional Advancement policies, procedures and record-keeping requirements, including contact reports and moves management reporting.

  • Other duties as assigned.
