In this role, you will perform restorative care activities with a patient centered focus and provide surveillance and basic interpretation of various physiological monitoring for our patients.

As a Level 4 epilepsy center, our Pediatric Epilepsy Center has been awarded the highest classification granted by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). It means we provide the highest level of medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for children with complex epilepsy.

 

The Neurodiagnostic (ND) Tech Assistant is a support position in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. The Neurodiagnostic (ND) Tech Assistant works under the direct supervision of Neurodiagnostic Supervisor and in partnership with a Registered or Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist to perform support care activities with a customer service focus, providing culturally sensitive care to meet patient needs at all times. Demonstrate competence in areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills to perform restorative care in addition to surveillance and basic interpretation of various physiological monitoring for patients on designated nursing units. The Neurodiagnostic (ND) Tech Assistant must perform job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers, and others

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in monitoring EMU patients to ensure patient safety.
  • Alerts physicians of clinical/subclinical seizures or behavioral arrest changes.
  • Recognizes normal and abnormal EEG waveform patterns.
  • Assist Neurodiagnostic Technologists in patient care as needed.
  • Disconnects EEG electrodes from patients head, cleans and remove equipment from patient room after the end of the study.
  • Troubleshoots EEG reading in real time to minimize the risk of poor or incomplete data.
  • Participates in educational sessions.
  • Successfully completes ASET EEG 200-211 on-line 12 module course.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

 Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Entry level personal computer or Microsoft Windows knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with hospital staff and departments.
  • Ability to move machines and patients weighing more than 25 pounds.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with hospital staff and departments.
  • CPR certified in basic cardiac life support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within 90 days of hire.
  • Continuously monitors patients undergoing cEEG recording for safety, either in room or via remote video monitoring.
  • Possesses knowledge of monitoring system and camera controls.
  • Alerts nursing and/or technologist staff when clinical seizures or other paroxysmal events occur. Communicate with patients and bedside staff to obtain information about events. Must document observations and ensure patients are in camera view at all time.
  • Assist Neurodiagnostic technologists as needed (restocking supplies, preparation of patient rooms, electrode application, repair and removal, cleaning and disinfection of equipment, etc.).
  • Completes ASET on-line didactic course LTM 100 Introduction to LTM for EMU Personnel hospital training to alert supervisor and/or activate hospital systems such.
