A Staff Pharmacist is an integral member of the health care team, responsible for drug therapy monitoring, distribution, drug information, and precepting pharmacy students and residents, conducting clinical research, participating in Department and Hospital Committees, task forces and work groups and fostering excellent interdepartmental relationships.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

For full consideration applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position. 

  • California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR.
  • PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice, or Specialty residency, or relevant Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification, or three (3) years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Experience in Ambulatory Care Clinic.
  • Experience in communicating patient care plans to healthcare professionals.
  • Experience in reviewing patient charts and creating medication management plans.
  • Experience with triage and assessing when a patient may be in distress and in need of medical attention.
  • Experience in identifying medication-related problems in patients, communicating them to a patient's physician and offering recommendations.
  • Experience in assessing lab data and appropriateness of drug therapy.
  • Familiarity with the use of physical assessment monitors such as DM machines, asthma spacers/inhalers, BP monitors, coagucheck machines, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in area of specialty [National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS), or Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP)]
  • PGY2 Pharmacy Residency.
  • Experience in working with and directing residents and students.
  • Knowledge of UCDH Pharmacy Services, policies and procedures.

Work Environment

Shifts rotating. Hours variable. The situation may arise where the employee will need to return to work in emergency situations. The position will include evening shifts, day shifts and rotating weekend shifts. TB skin testing required annually. Must have good personal hygiene and dress in a professional manner consistent with the Departmental professional behavior policy. The employee must maintain all qualifications necessary to maintain PGY1 residency preceptor status as put forth by ASHP.
