Description

Job Summary

The Cook is responsible for the timely preparation of food items according to set recipe specifications in a clean, safe, and sanitary environment. The Cook is also responsible for preparing food for one or more service areas such as Trayline, cafeteria, cafeteria grill, deli, catering, etc. This is the fully operational level for this series. The Cook is responsible for setting up and preparing items for all Food Services, according to recipes to meet Department standards. The Cook performs duties requiring previous training or experience in food preparation techniques.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Customer service experience working directly with customers
  • Read, understand, and accurately prepare recipes
  • Correctly adjust recipes to produce the required portions
  • Use portion control to maintain flavor, and appearance, and contribute to cost containment
  • Follow written and oral instructions
  • Meet all schedules and assignments
  • Organize work and work area to complete assigned duties accurately and quickly
  • Accurately use measuring equipment and utensils
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures/requirements used in hospitals and food service areas
  • Knowledge of diets, diet terminology, and dietary abbreviations or ability to learn these

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Servsafe or Food Handler Card 
  • Prior large-volume cooking experience
  • Two years of recent food cooking experience

Department Overview

 

The primary purpose of the Joint Venture Rehabilitation Hospital is to provide a full range of rehabilitation services designed to restore patients to their optimal functional capacity. The hospital is a 52-bed rehabilitation hospital on the Sacramento Medical Center campus. It is equipped with leading-edge amenities and adaptive units where patients can practice typical activities of daily living. The rehabilitation hospital also includes a 12-bed brain injury unit and four private rooms for bariatric patients.
