Graduate, Undergraduate and Equity Affairs at the UC Office of the President provides leadership and support for efforts that advance UC equity and inclusion, close equity gaps, promote access to and successful completion of baccalaureate and graduate degrees, and help to provide an exemplary University experience for all. Position Summary
UCOP Graduate Studies advances graduate education at the University of California through strategic planning, analysis, outreach and coordination. This includes the development and support of graduate research and preparation opportunities as well as advocacy efforts through systemwide initiatives and programs. Growing Our Own and Diversifying UC Ph.D. Pathways is a systemwide initiative that aims to increase the number and proportion of UC undergraduate degree recipients who earn academic doctoral degrees, and to increase the number and proportion of UC academic doctoral enrollees from UC, CSU and CCC, other Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs). In support of Growing Our Own efforts, the Graduate Pathways Manager collaborates with Growing Our Own campus personnel at the ten UC campuses to facilitate measurable program impact. Uses advanced strategy development, communication and analytical skills to address and resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data require an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. Exercises judgment in selecting approaches to evaluating criteria for obtaining results. Primarily deals with programs and proposals with broad impact across the function, initiative, program and / or organization. Develops and oversees the implementation of new programs and processes. This position is eligible for a remote work arrangement within the state of California. The selected candidate must reside within the state of California or be willing to relocate.

Key Responsibilities

  • 35% Collaborates with campus partners, leadership and stakeholders to facilitate measurable program impact. Supports and evaluates the effectiveness of the Growing Our Own Initiative, considering outcomes, including UC systemwide goals, graduation rates and career outcomes for target population. Tracks effectiveness of admissions and / or recruitment programs/strategies/efforts and makes recommendations for recruitment strategy to enhance yield. In partnership with UC campuses coordinates the development, implementation, monitoring and assessment of programs and efforts in the Growing Our Own Initiative and related efforts. Develops internal milestones and goals for initiative progress. Researches and summarizes best practices to effect initiative impact. Responsible for plan/efforts to conduct highly complex analyses across a broad spectrum of programs, policies and initiatives, also provides in-depth, complex analyses as an initiative specialist. Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for Growing Our Own and its programs/efforts. Also identifies mechanisms for funding, resource support and opportunities to highlight/present initiative-related efforts/outcomes. Prepares data, information, reports, analyses and presentations as needed.

 

  • 25% In support of maximizing Growing Our own effectiveness, problem solves and innovates to advance the initiative. In coordination with unit leadership, directs a wide variety of projects and follows through with all levels of staff and individuals inside and outside the organization. Guides and directs planning which may include senior management, faculty, and / or external constituencies. Proposes, leads and/or participates on policy, strategy and planning committees and working groups. Develops and presents complex proposals on a broad range of issues to include problem identification, costs, benefits and options. Develops and advocates solutions to organizational or research program issues, including developing and administering new systems, policies, processes, or programs and provides analyses for academic data, systems and resource projects working directly with internal and external constituents.

 

  • 25% Develops and coordinates initiative-related advocacy and communications, including overall strategic communication/engagement plan, including government advocacy, website presence, newsletters and social media for designated programs/efforts; executes strategies and implementation for education and initiative outreach and marketing efforts/resources. Develops and maintains effective communication with and among campus partners and other stakeholders as appropriate, including the CSU and CCC. Develop and maintain ongoing mechanisms for information sharing and collaboration among the Growing Our Own community.

 

  • 15% Coordinates initiative convenings and special projects with UC campus partners, other stakeholders and/or Growing Our Own Initiative participants to ensure success and foster campus engagement. Makes high-level contacts of a sensitive nature, internally and externally, requiring discretion and diplomacy in order to negotiate with and/or persuade officials/others to adopt proposed solutions or program/process recommendations. Other duties as assigned.

Full Salary Range:
$85,800 - $158,200

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
