Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $24.76- $42.67.  The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $26.17- $32.70.


Job Closing Date

Initial applicant review will begin on or around June 24th, 2024. Posting will remain open until filled.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement within the 11-county region of San Joaquin Valley and the local foothills (SJV) serviced by UC Merced's NCPC. The selected candidate must reside within the region, or be willing to relocate, and will be required to report to work in person in Merced, CA on a regular schedule.

This position is a one year contract and is eligible for full UC benefits.

About the Job

The NCPC Projects Coordinator works under the general supervision of the HSRI Director, Executive Director, and the Nicotine and Cannabis Policy Center (NCPC) Director on activities under NCPC, including student training, research coordination, research dissemination, and supporting HSRI activities. The Projects Coordinator will be responsible for providing various levels of analytical and administrative support across numerous projects under the NCPC, and work to improve them. This will include working to co-develop, implement, and prepare summative reports for NCPC. The Projects Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring project progress and will interface with UC Merced departments and students, as well as a number of community figures and units in and within 11 counties of the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Nevada Foothills. The Projects Coordinator will be responsible for meeting agendas and coordinating NCPC's Core groups to ensure that activities are up to date. Thus, good communication skills and the ability to work with diverse organizations and people are essential. Also, the NCPC Projects Coordinator will be responsible to collaborate with external and internal technology team members to help implement new technology developments (e.g., data dashboard) and NCPC's data dissemination and social media presence. The Projects Coordinator will follow standard practices and procedures in collecting and analyzing relevant data from which answers can be readily obtained.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working independently and with minimal supervision, the Projects Coordinator will: serve as daily primary contact and day-to-day operations manager for a variety of NCPC and HSRI research and training projects; conduct outreach by reaching out to professors and community stakeholders; participate in strategic planning and forecasting; set project timelines and ensure that they are followed; organize and lead meetings with directors and stakeholders; design and organize events, including board meetings, community meetings, and other project-related events; co-develop, implement and prepare reports and assessments; assist with the development of grant proposals and other funding opportunities; resolve conflicts and issues; develops and deliver progress reports. 
  • Assist in the development of training workshops, online resources, and other educational intervention.
  • Work with the HSRI Director, Executive Director, NCPC Director, and HSRI-affiliated faculty to develop comprehensive workflow processes or projects. Monitor and modify project schedules as assigned. Ensure team communication between faculty, principal investigators, and the community; provide administrative support as required when organizing meetings and event planning. 
  • Network with academic and community partners, staying abreast of conferences, workshops, guiding issues, new policies, and approaches to conducting and promoting research. Help with dissemination of products through social media, email communication, and newsletters, including conference abstracts, research briefs, white papers, social media, and web content. 
  • Apply professional project management concepts to direct and manage project development from beginning to end; Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents. 
  • Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout the project life cycle. Organize activities, ensuring project completion on schedule and within budget constraints. Conduct project reviews and create reports to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements. Develop and publish communications and outreach materials. Work with web developers, directors, and faculty to gather, organize, and create website materials.
  • Supervise project personnel (typically undergraduate, graduate student, and postdoctoral researchers.) 
  • Draft correspondence, prepare and/or edit meeting minutes, and prepare and deliver presentations. Track timelines and plans; work with HSRI administrative staff to order supplies as needed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a related area. (Required) 
  • Advanced degree from an accredited university in a related area. (Preferred)
  • One years of directly related, progressively responsible experience in project management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A Master's degree is preferred but may not substitute the experience requirement. (Required)

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs. (Preferred) 
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Solid ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. 
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns. (Preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of the health promotion and education field. Skills associated with the deliver of health promotion and education programs. (Preferred)
  • Ability in the proper use of Spanish Language grammar, spelling, and speaking. (Preferred)
