Brief Summary of Job Duties

The Plaxco Lab Assistant assists in biosensor development research. The main duties are to assist with and perform basic procedures for the development of new electrochemical aptamer-based biosensors and their adaptation to in vivo employment. To include, aptamer characterization and redesign, sensor optimization, in vitro test of performance. Secondary tasks are aimed at assisting with general lab functions including laboratory safety, ordering stocks, and equipment management. 

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a lab environment  or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology, chemistry or similar fields.  
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in molecular biology, chemistry, or similar field or equivalent experience and/or training.
  • Experience with in vivo experiments or biosensors (less than 1 year).

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

60% Research Support  Assist in biosensor development research. The main duties are to assist with and perform basic procedures for the development of new electrochemical aptamer-based biosensors and their adaptation to in vivo employment.

40% Lab Support and Maintenance  Maintenance and ordering of laboratory stocks and assisting with equipment management and laboratory safety.
