Job Summary

The Research Compliance Team monitors billing, financial, and privacy activities related to biomedical and clinical research at UC Davis Health. The Research Compliance Auditor position reports to the Research Compliance Manager with oversight by the Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer and the Sr. Research Compliance Analyst.

This position is responsible for but not limited to:

  • The monitoring and auditing of research billing, financial, and privacy activities performed at UC Davis Health in multiple electronic systems, including EMR's Resolute Hospital and Professional Billing modules
  • Ensure that UC Davis Health's biomedical and clinical research activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and policies, including state and federal billing and privacy regulations
  • Perform research audits with a high level of accuracy, evaluating the audited activities for compliance with internal policies and state and federal billing and privacy policies, laws, and guidelines In coordination with the Research Compliance Team and other departments
  • Provide written reports for and communicate audit activities to management
  • Compliance Department Operations and Compliance Work Plan Activities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years or more of extensive and demonstrated experience working in healthcare billing processes, Epic's Resolute Hospital & Professional Billing modules, and Epic's Research Billing Review Activity or equivalent systems
  • Five years or more of extensive and demonstrated experience performing tasks consistent with research protocols across multiple diseases and/or physiologic systems
  • Demonstrated experience applying state and federal policy, regulations, and laws related to research billing and financial activities
  • Demonstrated experience applying and/or creating policies and procedures related to research billing and financial activities
  • Demonstrated experience communicating technical information to management and leadership
  • Demonstrated experience auditing and/or monitoring in a healthcare or research environment
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team
  • Advanced knowledge related to the conduct of research protocols and associated billing and financial activity
  • Interpersonal skills for collaborating effectively with leadership, managers, and staff at all levels and across the organization, and with representatives of external regulatory agencies
  • Written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information, education, and instructions clearly and concisely, and to produce high-quality reports, documentation, presentations, and educational materials
  • Analytical skills to weigh evidence, identify and evaluate related policy and/or regulation, and arrive at an accurate conclusion of fact

Department Description

UC Davis Health Compliance and Privacy Services (Compliance) is responsible for providing oversight for UC Davis Health's Compliance and Privacy programs. UC Davis Health Compliance engages in a variety of activities to promote and ensure ethical and proper behavior in all matters related to UC Davis Health business operations and to establish effective controls that promote adherence to applicable laws, regulations, rules, guidelines, requirements, procedures, and directives regarding Federal, State, and Private health services. UC Davis Health Compliance and Privacy Services provides advice and assistance with compliance requirements and obligations of UC Davis Health to the Vice Chancellor of Health and Human Services and UC Davis Health Chief Executive Officer, School of Medicine Dean, UC Davis Medical Center Chief Executive Officer, and other UC Davis Health deans, executives, and administrators.
