The UK College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine seeks a visionary leader as the next Division Chief for Digestive Diseases and Nutrition. The College of Medicine, open since 1950, produces highly qualified, caring physicians and biomedical scientists to serve the people of Kentucky and the nation. It comprises 25 basic science and clinical departments, and more than 1,300 faculty members. In recent years the College of Medicine has put a heavy focus on research with total research funding exceeding $211 million including more than $99 million in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding.

UK HealthCare, the University's health care enterprise, is an award-winning, nationally recognized health care system dedicated to patient-focused care. Its designation as a Level 1 trauma center and its reception of Magnet status means its team of more than 9,000 physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care professionals is heavily qualified to treat Kentucky's sickest patients. The hospital system includes more than 80 specialized clinics and 140 outreach programs. The system also includes an NCI Comprehensive Care Center. UK HealthCare has been named the No. 1 hospital in Kentucky by U.S. News & World Report for the past eight years.

The Division Chief reports directly to and serves at the pleasure of the Department Chair and collaborates closely with other leaders across UK HealthCare and the College of Medicine. The department of Internal Medicine is the largest in the College of Medicine and at the University of Kentucky, with nearly 350 faculty.

The Division of Digestive Disease and Nutrition is a U.S. News and World Report "high performing" (top 10% nationally) division within the department of internal medicine. Faculty are committed to the clinical care of patients with complex GI disease and to researching the causes of GI disease and future treatments. The mission of the division is to deliver the best patient care supported by state-of-the-art research in gastrointestinal disorders. The division has robust outpatient endoscopy resources, including an ambulatory care center, that allows it to meet patients' needs for screening, diagnostic, and therapeutic endoscopies. Planning and alignment for the division's future growth and recruitment to accomplish department goals will be integral to the duties of the Chief.

The Chief must have a record of achievement in academic medicine in internal medicine and gastroenterology. Exceptional accomplishments as a clinician and academician will prepare the candidate for success guiding a busy clinical practice and supporting growing academic careers. The predominant criteria for appointment as chief include emotional intelligence, a proven ability to deliver excellent patient care while training future leaders in digestive diseases, nutrition, and internal medicine. The successful candidate will be a prominent academic leader with an established record of excellence in clinical care, research, clinical education, and mentorship.

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong leadership skills as a listener, decision-maker, humanist, and an effective advocate for the faculty, the division, and the department. The candidate will have collaborative initiatives; they will demonstrate integrity and foster the trust of colleagues and the broader University faculty. The successful applicant will be an effective communicator. Prior administrative experience as a Division Chief, or Program Director is preferred.
