Description

We are hiring for two roles with different shifts:

The Library Assistant III – Second Shift plays a vital role in supporting the busiest hours of operation at the Eugene McDermott Library. This position covers the second shift, Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and serves as a primary resource for patrons, student workers, and colleagues across multiple public service areas. This shift sees the highest volume of foot traffic, service transactions, and student engagement, requiring a dynamic, organized, and customer-focused individual. The role ensures high-quality public service, supports student supervision, maintains equipment and building functionality, and upholds library policy during peak usage hours.

The Library Assistant III – Swing Shift plays a critical role in maintaining continuity between day and evening operations at the Eugene McDermott Library. This position covers the swing shift, and the employee may choose between two scheduling options:

  • Monday–Thursday from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM and Friday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM (5-day schedule)

Please note that shift hours and schedules may change based on departmental needs, holiday hours, university closures, summer sessions, or intersession adjustments.

As the key staff member bridging daytime and nighttime activity, the swing shift assistant helps manage transitions in staffing, student worker hand-offs, and evening building activity. This role is especially vital during peak afternoon and evening hours and includes monitoring the library's security gates to ensure appropriate access and adherence to building policies.
